Week 2 | Day 4 | Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity

This week for day 4, activity 2 of week 2 for SLJ, we learnt about indigenous communities. We watched different videos about these indigenous people. Then we chose two communities that interested us most and wrote 2 facts each. I chose the Ainu people and the Maya people. I have learnt a lot about these indigenous communities.

  1. Hi Sakina, Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani again commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the DLO you shared about celebrating diversity and I learnt something new too! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  2. Hi Sakina! You have some great information on the Maya and Ainu people. The fact about Ainu people not being able to speak their own language, and forced to be Japan citizens really caught my attention. How do you think it felt for them? Although your poster is quite simple, it makes it very easy to understand. But I think photos would look great on here as well...nice work!

  3. Kia ora! Olive here from the Summer Learning Journey! How are you doing?

Thank you for your blog post. I really enjoyed learning more about the Ainu and Mayan people. I think you've provided some excellent information about the diversity of these Indigenous people. Ka pai on all your effort! I lived in Australia for five years and I got to learn more about Aboriginal people! Did you know that Aboriginal people share their history and stories through their art? They have this beautiful dot-style art that they use to express their ancestral history. It's really beautiful!

Ka pai on all your effort! Remember the end of the Summer Learning Journey is next Friday 24th January! Keep up the blogging, commenting and enthusiasm!

    Ngā mihi,
    Olive

  4. Hi Sakina,
I liked how you found some interesting facts about the Ainu and Mayan people, like how the Mayans kept track of time by looking at the stars and sun. I found it interesting that they were able to do so, how do you think they knew how to do that?
