Food Tech | Sushi

 LI: To follow a recipe to make sushi.

This week was our last session of food tech, with Mrs Heka. Today we followed Mrs Heka's instructions towards making sushi. My partner was Sakshi. We first got our cleaning supplies ready for the end of our lesson. 

To make the sushi we got out all our equiptment (3 sized bowls, small, medium and large, two small knives, measuring spoons, spatula, green and white chopping board and a bamboo mat) Our ingredients for the sushi was tuna, 3 table spoons of mayo, capsicum, rice, a pinch of salt and nori sheets. In the medium bowl, we broke up our rice with a spatula, in the small bowl we added our tuna or chicken with the mayo and mixed that together and filled up water in our large bowl. Then we went into the process of making the sushi rolls. We dipped our fingers in water, so that the rice wouldn't stick and spread the rice on our nori sheets. We added our filling and topping (tuna and capsicum) in the middle of our rice. We then used the bamboo mat to roll our sushi. If the end of the bamboo mat didn't stick, we would add water to the end. Lastly, we cut out our sushi rolls into 8 pieces. We ate our sushi at the cafe. The sushi I made was delicious.

Food Tech | Corn Fritters

LI: To follow a recipe to make corn fritters.

At Tamaki College, we did food tech with Mrs Heka. This week we made corn fritters with salad on the side. We listened to a set of instructions to create our dish. I worked with Sakshi. We collected all our equipment and ingredients.

To make the batter of our corn fritters, I measured out the wet ingredients (2 eggs and 1/4 of milk) and mixed it, while Sakshi measured out the dry ingredients (1/3 of flour and 1 tablespoon of baking powder). After they were mixed separately, we put the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, and mixed thoroughly until the batter was creamy and had no lumps. After that, we mixed a can of corn into the batter, and greased our pan with (1 tablespoon of oil). We added small batches of our batter into our pan and flipped it once it was brown. In our lunch boxes, we added our salad and corn fritters, with dressing and sweet and chilli sauce.

Once we finished cooking, we washed the dishes and wiped our work spaces, ready for next week. I really enjoyed making the corn fritters, which were very delicious. Next week, we are making mac and cheese.

Tech Reflection | Pewter Casting

This week in tech at Tamaki College, we did pewter casting with Mr Grundy. We finished off picking our designs. I decided to create a mickey mouse silhouette for my friend. After picking our designs, Mr Grundy printed it off. Then we shaded our sillhoutte on the back of our piece of paper and used it to trace it onto our piece of cardboard. After that, we used a cutter to cut out our shape. I realized that my mickey mouse was too big, so I decided to create a smaller design.

Tech Reflection | Pewter Casting

This week for tech at Tamaki College, we carried on with our 16 designs for our 4 recipients. We made sure that we didn't have any skinny and detailed parts of our designs. After we completed finding designs for our recipients, we chose one designs we wanted to create for a recipient. I decided to chose a Micky mouse designs that wasn't too difficult. Once we chose a design, Mr Grundy printed it out, so we could create it. Mr Grundy showed us the first step, of how to carve out our designs, so we were ready for next week. 

Tech Reflection

This week for tech at Tamaki College, we did pewter casting with Mr Grundy. Today we finished off our workbook designs for our 4 recipients. In our workbook, we also wrote 4 things our recipients liked. In our silhouette designs there couldn't be any skinny features and any holes, because it would be too hard to create. For pewter casting we are making necklaces for a recipient or for ourselves. I have enjoyed choosing designs for my necklace to give to someone.

Tech Reflection | Pewter Casting

This week was our first session of tech with Mr Grundy. Today we looked at pewter casting to make jewellery. First we planned our designs and who our recipients were. Mr Grundy showed us the steps of creating our designs, so we could have a clear understanding on how we make it. There were a few designs we were thinking of making. On a google doc, we wrote 4 recipients we would give our necklace to and some facts about what they like.

Tech | Robotics

This week in tech for robotics we learnt how to code the number 8 using our m bots. There was sheet of the number 8, we could use to see if our m bots made an 8 and so our m bots could follow the line. I successfully made the code, so I recorded it. We coded 8, so we could practise since we will be coding our initial for the next few weeks. After coding and testing the number 8 we tried a different code, so when we put our hand in front of the m bot it goes backwards and if we put our hand behind our m bot, it will go forward.

Tech | Robotics

This week in tech, for robotics we wrote a code to make the letter D. Before coding, we did a kahoot about coding. When we started coding, we tested it to see if we created the letter D. There were many mistakes in my code, to make D but I still tried and I finally made D. After making the code, I recorded it. Next week we will code our initials.

Tech | Robotics

This week in tech for robotic, we wrote a code, for our mbots to create a circle, a figure of eight and our initials. When we created our codes, we tested it, to see if it was the correct code. If there were a few mistakes we changed our codes. To practise how to write our initials, using the mbot, we first started with D and M, because they were one of the easiest letters to code.

Technology|Wood Work With Mr. Grundy

For another awesome day of tech we did wood work with Mr. Grundy. We started on cutting our wood and the joints with the backed saw and the wood chisel to finish off our designs. I had already cut my wood and one of my joints for my chest of draws. Since my wood wasn't straight, I used help from Mr. Grundy. He used a machine to make my wood straight. If our joints didn't fit in, than we could use the sand paper to make it fit. I was really happy that my joint and other piece of wood fit together. I enjoyed my day of wood work with Mr. Grundy.

Tech With Mr. Grundy|Wood Work

This week for tech we did wood work with Mr. Grundy at Tamaki Collage. For wood work we were finishing off our design. I chose to create the chest of draws. We measured and drew our design on a piece of paper. After finishing off that, Mr. Grundy signed our designs. We could work on cutting our wood to create our design.

This week for tech, we did wood work with Mr. Grundy. We drew 8 designs which needed to have joints, so Mr Grundy could tick our designs. After Mr Grundy had ticked the designs, we chose one design that we wanted to create with wood. I decided to create the chest of drawers, because you could hide things. With our one design, we needed to say why we chose this design. Next week we will be creating our designs.
