Solving A Multiplication Problem

This week for another great day of maths, we learnt four new strategies which were rounding, reversibility, doubling and place value. We solved multiplication equation using the strategies we learnt. After that we created a DLO of a multiplication problem. I decided to do the airplane problem. The strategy I used to solve the problem was place value, because it works with bigger problems, like 1254 x 5. Once we created the DLO, we made a screen castify and explained how to solve the problem. I enjoyed solving the problems and learning new strategies.

Multiplication Poster

LI: To complete four tasks over four weeks. This week for maths we moved onto our third task. I decided to do the poster, which was on multiplication. This week we we had to write our answers in three different languages. I decided to do Spanish, Japanese and English. We had to make three equations, 10 digit, 100 digit and 1000 digit. We could do any technique we wanted to do. I decided to do the lattice method. I had a lot fun creating a poster of multiplication. I learnt how to say numbers in three different languages.

Fraction Problems

LI: To create fraction problems. This week for maths we had to create fraction problems. First we got into groups of 3. In my group I had Fau and Sulia. Then we solved a few fraction problems using beans. We also had to create our own problem for other groups to solve. After that we had to create fraction problems. We had use multiplication. Sulia did 1/3, Fau did 1/5 and I did 1/4. We had to come up with problems and had to include photos.

Multiplication & Division

LI: To memorise basic multiplication patterns (the times tables). This week for daily 6 I decided to do multiplication and division. I decided to do level two which was to recite the 3, 4 and 6 times tables and to divide any answer from the 3, 4 and 6 times tables by 1 to 10. I had to write down the times tables and division. I practised my times tables , so I could say the answers to the division and multiplication faster.

Multiplication & Division

LI: To memorise basic multiplication patterns (the times tables). This week for daily 6 we had to do multiplication and division. There was three levels. Level one was to recite the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and to divide any answer from the 2, 5 and 10 times tables by 1 to 10. Level two was to recite the 3, 4 and 6 times tables and to divide any answer from the 3, 4 and 6 times tables by 1 to 10. Lastly level three was to recite the 7, 8 and 9 times tables and to divide any answer from the 7, 8 and 9 times tables by 1 to 10. The level that I was aiming for was level three. I wrote down the 7, 8 and 9 times tables. I also wrote down the division.

The Multiplier

LI: To solve a multiplication equation using The Multiplier. This week for maths we had to go on a multiplication site called The Multiplier. We had to solve a multiplication equation that had a 2 digit number and a 1 digit number. For The Multiplier I decided to do 83 x 6. I had to try and use strategies to solve this equation. I decided to split the equation into 83 x 3 and 83 x 3. To solve 83 x 3 I multiplied 3 and 3 which is 9. Then I multiplied 30 and 8 which is 240. After that I added 240 and 9 together which is 249. Since I solved on of the equations I don't need to solve the other because I split the 83 x 6 into 83 x 3 and 83 x 3. Then I added 249 and 249. 249 + 249 = 498. 83 x 6 = 498. I used The Multiplier by picking a multiplication equation and splitting it to solve the equation. The number that I used in the problem was 83 x 6. I split the equation by splitting the 6 into 3 and 3. Then I did 83 x 3 and 83 x 3. I split the numbers because it will be more easier to solve the equation. The easiest way to split up the numbers was to split the 6 into 3 and 3 and then multiplying it with 83 two times. I could show this equation in a diagram by telling people the steps on how to solve a equation.
