Week 2 | Day 2 | Activity 3: “I Have a Dream”

This week for day 2, activity 3 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote a paragraph about the bus problem with Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was an African American activist, who stood up for her race. In our paragraph, we included the problem and how other people reacted about Rosa Parks. I think that Rosa Parks is a great person who stood up for her race.

  1. Kia ora Sakina,

Weather is looking a little brim today! What have you been up to this week? I think I have mentioned it before but I am working at the ASB Classic tennis tournament this week and I actually got to see Serena Williams in person!

Well done for participating in this years' SLJ programme, "Changemakers: People who have changed the world" - ka pai for such an amazing summary/reflection of Rosa Parks’ story. I just think it is so sad and unfair that so many people were affected by those very racist and exclusive laws but it is amazing people like Rosa Parks who give our world hope. Like you said, Rosa inspired many other people of colour to stand up for their rights and for themselves. Rosa Parks is actually one of my idols because of how strong and brave she is and unfortunately when these kinds of incidents have happened to me, I remember how she stood up for herself and it helps me stand up for myself. Do you have an idol that you look up to or someone who inspires you to be brave?

Well done for another awesome blog post Sakina, keep leaving mindful and thoughtful comments on other learners’ blog post :)

  2. Hi Sakina! I agree with your last two sentences about Rosa being an amazing and inspirational role model to others...Her story changed the world, and how many people think! How do you think the people on the bus felt? I can imagine the people feeling uncomfortable, being a bus of African-Americans and Caucasians. I think Rosa did what some people wouldn't have done, and spoke her mind. Good work!

  3. Hi Sakina,
I liked how you said that Rosa Parks was an awesome person that stood up for herself, and her people. I also liked how you said that she's an inspirational role model. Would you be able to do what she did?
