Week 2 | Day 5 | Activity 3: Choose Your Own

Willie Apiata:
Willie Apiata is a former soldier in the New Zealand Special Air Service. He was born on the 28th of June 1972 in Mangakino, New Zealand and has battled, like the war in Afghanistan. Willie Apiata was the first to win the Victoria cross award for New Zealand, as a soldier after world war 2. During the war, Willie carried the soldiers who were badly injured to a safer place and started fighting afterwards. Willie Apiata has had an impact on other people's lives, by sacrificing himself for New Zealand.

This week for day 5, activity 3 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote about someone who we think has changed the world. I chose Willie Apiata, who was a former soldier in New Zealand. For this activity I included who Willie Apiata was and how he has had an impact on other people's lives.

Week 2 | Day 5 | Activity 2: Leading By Example

Act Of Kindness: Something that I have done that was an act of kindness, was making breakfast for my sister. This was a while ago, when my sister was sick. She slept in bed till 10 or 11, so I decided to make her breakfast since she was sick. The breakfast that I made her was avocado toast with eggs and a cup of tea. I also wrote her a get well soon letter. When I took the breakfast to her room she was surprised and gave me a hug. Even the smallest thing can matter and be an act of kindness.

This week for day 5, activity 2 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote a short story of something that we have done that was a random act of kindness. This activity was based on Mother Teresa and Princess Diana. They were people who helped other people. Something that I have done that was a random act of kindness was making breakfast for my sister, while she was sick.

Week 2 | Day 5 | Activity 1: Everyday Heroes

This week for day 5, activity 1 for week 2 of SLJ, we learnt about the wildfires in New South Wales, Australia. For this activity, we wrote 5 ways we could support people who have been affected by the fire. Then we recorded us saying these 5 ways we could support them. One of the ways I would support these affected people, is creating a fund raiser.

Week 2 | Day 4 | Activity 3: Wise Words

This week for day 4, activity 3 of week 2, we identified someone who we think are role models. I have chosen my sister, Nadia. We asked our role model to give advice not only to us, but also to the viewers/ blog readers. My sister is an amazing role model and inspiration.

Week 2 | Day 4 | Activity 2: Celebrating Diversity

Then we chose two communities that interested us most and wrote 2 facts each. I chose the Ainu people and the Maya people. I have learnt a lot about these indigenous communities.

Week 2 | Day 4 | Activity 1: Guiding Principles

This week for day 4, activity 1 of week 2 for SLJ, we learnt about whakataukī. A whakataukī is a proverb or a metaphor. We looked through whakataukī's and chose one that had a meaning to us. We created a poster of the whakataukī we chose and at least one image. This is the whakataukī I chose, because it is rousing in a great way.

Week 2 | Day 3 | Activity 3: Belle Of The Ball

This week for day 3, activity 3 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote a short review of a book we like, that includes what the book is about and what we like about it. The book that I have chosen is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. This Harry Potter book is one of my favourite books. The main characters are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Voldemort.

Week 2 | Day 3 | Activity 2: The Right To An Education

Camp Story: Sometimes, every year in the holiday of term 4, my family and I go camping around New Zealand. We always have fun and try out different activities. One of my favourite places to go camping is Rotorua, because of the activities like the skyline. My all time favourite activity is the luge cart. Not only do my family and I have a fun time, but we also spend time and get off technology and our devices. The men in my family cook food, while the ladies sit and relax until the food is ready. At the camping sites, we play volleyball and chat with each other. Something I like to do at the top 10 camping sites, is play on the bouncing pillow with my cousins and sister. On our last day of camping we go somewhere enjoyable, like the museum, the pools and many more. At the end we all have a awesome time camping.

This week for day 3, activity 2 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote a story about anything, which was at least 10 sentences. My story was about camping with my family mostly every year. I have talked about what my family and I do when we camp around New Zealand.

We imagined that we were Nelson Mandela in prison and we were given a journal to write in. We wrote our journal entry and daily schedules of being in prison. We watched a video of Nelson Mandela in Robben Island prison.

Week 2 | Day 1 | Activity 3: ‘Dear Jacinda’

This week for day 1, activity 3 of week 2 for SLJ, we imagined that we wrote a letter to Jacinda Ardern. In the letter we included an issue we have chosen that was important to us and what we would like Jacinda Ardern to do about it. The issue that I have chosen is homeless people in New Zealand. I chose this issue, because there are a lot of homeless people in NZ who don't have the important need ( water, food, shelter and education), and they need these things to live.

Week 2 | Day 1 | Activity 2

This week for day 1, activity 2 of week 2 for SLJ, we used our maths to solve a question. For this activity we calculated how old in years, months and days Dr Jessa Rogers was when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. Dr Jessa Rogers is a leader in the indigenous education and a aboriginal Australian. My answer for this question was 25 years, 3 months and 2 days since Jessa got her award. Below is my working out of this question.

Dr Jessa Rogers won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award. She was born on the 7th of April 1985 and got her award on the 9th of July 2010. Calculate Jessa's age in years, months and days.

Working Out: Since Jessa was born in 1985 and received her award in 2010, we first work out how many we have to add to 1985 to get to 2010, so 1985 + 5 = 1990. After we add 1990 + 10 = 2000. Finally 2000+ 10 = 2010, which means Jessa was 25 years when she got her award.

Now we have to solve the months. Since she was born on April and got her award on July we work how many we get from April to July. So May, June and July, which is 3. This means Jessa was 3 months when she got her award.

Finally we figure out the days. So Jessa was born on the 7th and received her award on the 9th. So we add up until we get from 7 to 9. 7 + 2 = 9, which means Jessa got her award when she was 2 days.

The final answer is 25 years, 3 months and 2 day when she got her award.

Week 2 | Day 1 | Activity 1: Playing Favourites

This week for day 1, activity 1 of week 2 for SLJ, we created a DLO showing our top 5 favourite things to do. Mine are camping, spending time with my family, reading books, practising my times tables and playing with my rubik's cube. In this DLO we included images as well as our favourite things to do.
