National Current Events

This week as a group, we explored the national current events. In my group were Pouvi, Afa, Makaili and Haylee. Not only did we explore the current events, but we also learnt the different types of current events. Together we read articles about national news and which articles matched the best with each type of current events. On a google map, we plotted the locations of where the current event stories took place, with a short explanation of the article/story.

Summarising The Main Ideas

This week for current events we found an article and summarise the main ideas. After we summarised, to make it more succinct, we turned it into a 10 syllable and 5 sentences summary. In this current events Sela, Haylee, Joel and I worked as a group and selected 1 of the topics which was “All Blacks defeat Ireland”.

The All Blacks are now in the semi finals playing against England later on. A big loss, but a proud achievement for Ireland reaching this far in the rugby world cup.

International Current Events

This week in reading, we explored the international current events. We plotted each international news on a google maps. For the currents events, we thought about why the stories were on the news, where it took place and the different types of news, like magnitude, timeliness and more.

Exploring Our National Current Events

This week in reading we explored the NZ national current events, the different types of these current events and thought about why these stories appeared on the news. Newspaper editors make choices about the current event stories they write, everyday. On a google maps we plotted the location of where the current event stories took place.

Current Events

This week we started on Current Events with our collaborative groups. We found two articles for the Current Events. The first article was about how there was a lockdown at Bellevue primary school. A girl shot people from the school. She had a list of teachers and kids on who to kill. Once her mission was finished she killed herself. The next article was about how a man and a dog survived in the snow by eating Taco Bell sauce. My group and I worked collaboratively to complete the Current Events.

Current Events

LI: To critically examine a current event using De Bono's thinking hats. This week we had to do current events or general knowledge. I decided to do current events because it is more easier to do and finish. First I had to choose an article from kiwi kid new or time for kids. The article that I chose was Guatemala volcano erupts. For the article we had to write down facts for the white hat, feelings for the red hat, benefits for the yellow hat, cautions for the black hat, creativity for the green hat and thinking for the blue hat.
