Inquiry|Peace

LI: To explore some definitions of peace./LI: To investigate and recognize characteristics, actions and symbols of peaceful activists. This week for inquiry we learnt about what peace is. First we got into groups of five. In my group I had Charlize, Victoria, Florence and Alayah. In our groups we wrote the antonyms and synonyms of peace. After we did that, we split ourselves in one group of three and a pair. I was with Charlize. In our pair or group we looked at photos and wrote down one to three words that describe the photo, what each image makes us feel and what we think the peoples perspectives are. We also made sentences using the word we used to describe the image. After that, we made a google draw and wrote what we think that peace means.

Verb Tenses

LI: To identify the verb tenses: present simple, past continuous and future continuous. This week for writing we made short videos of the present simple, past continuous and future continuous tenses. First we got into partners. We couldn't work with the same partner from last week. My partner was Angelica. We had to make twenty verbs which were not the verbs from last week. We only made seven videos of seven verbs. We had to inflect all of the verbs.

Boxing

LI: To learn defenses with counters. This week we had boxing in the hall with Pax. First we started off with a warm up. For the warm up there was four taggers that had pool noodles. The taggers had to try and tag people with the pool noodle. We could only tag people from their stomach to feet. If someone got tagged they had to do a burpee. For the first round the taggers were Angelica, Mojtaba, Lorenzo and I. When we finished playing one round we gave the pool noodles to someone else on the second round.

After we did the warm up, we got into partners. My partner was Alayah. We got ourselves into partner one and partner two. I was partner one. Partner one had to put on the gloves and the boxing gloves. Partner two got the two pool noodles and helped partner one put on the boxing gloves.

We then moved onto our defenses with counters. The first defense was guard, jab and cross. Partner two had to hit us with both the pool noodles while partner had to guard then jab and cross.

The next defense with the counters was the bridge, move forward and the cross. Partner two had to try and hit us again.

The third defense was slip, cross, left hook and cross. Before we did slip, cross, left hook and cross we learnt how to do the slip, because last week we didn't have enough time. To do the slip you have to get into your rock position and move your body to the left of right, so that when someone hits you, they hit your shoulder. Partner two had to do the same thing with the pool noodles.

For the last defense we did roll, cross, left or right uppercut and cross. Partner two had to put the pool noodles on our shoulder, so we could roll. Partner two also had to put it vertically, so we could do the attacks.

Once we did the defenses, we went back to class.

Addition Animation

LI: To complete four tasks over four weeks. This week for maths we completed our second task. We went on the google sheets to see what we wanted to do. I decided to do the animation. The operation I chose was addition. For the animation we had to use the algorithm strategy to figure out 6 digit equations. The animation was hard because we had to write down letter by letter and more.

Maori Place Names

This week for Maori we had Whaea Odie. First we went on a google doc and tried to match the Maori places with its meanings. On one side there was the Maori places. Next to it was the meanings. The meanings were wrong, so we searched the place names on the Maori dictionary. Altogether we had to match twenty place names with its meaning. Whaea Odie called us up to test us with our Maori. She asked questions like who are you and where are you from. She said the questions in Maori. We were give a piece of paper that had a drawing of a fruit. I had the tomatoe. With the fruit Whaea Odie said give me the tomatoe or the other fruits. She also said that in Maori. When Whaea Odie said give me the fruit, we had to say here in Maori. Once we got tested, we all checked on the Maori place names. We didn't know all of the maori place names and their meanings.

The tagger had to lye down on their stomach. If someone got tagged they also had to act like a snake and try to tag people. For the first round Mojtaba was the tagger and for the other round Alayah was the tagger. The last person standing would be the winner.

After that, we sat into our four lines and talked about how we can respect the environment. We respect the environment by picking up rubbish and more.

Once we talked about how we can respect the environment, we moved onto the activity which was called "Tic Tac Toe". For "Tic Tac Toe" we got into groups of five and one group of six. In my group I had Florence, Victoria, Alayah, Miiana and Sulia. We had to name our group. Our group name was "Islanders". For this game there were nine chairs which was placed like "Tic Tac Toe". There was two groups who was versing at a time. Each person had to run to a chair and sit down. One group were the o's and the other were the x's. The winner of this activity was " The Footballers".

We did GKQ/General Knowledge questions after playing "Tic Tac Toe". For GKQ/Geneneral Knowledge we played the master version. We all got into a circle. Someone was the master. They had to go to someone. Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige would ask questions. If someone answered correctly, they would be the master.

Once we played GKQ/General Knowledge Questions, we did our class catch phrase and went back to class.

LI: To infer thoughts and emotions. This week for reading we made inferences from a video called "For The Birds' ". The inferences we made were the birds' thoughts and emotions. For the inferences we needed the evidence, screenshots of the video and a link to the part of the inference of the video. We made one inference together as a group and the other inferences were made individually. We could do any amount of inferences. I made six individual inferences for example, one inference is the birds' are being mean and the evidence is they are making fun of the tall bird and laughing . I enjoyed making inferences about the video.

Commenting

This week for commenting I decided to comment on Farzana's blog. The blog post that I commented on was subtraction. I think Farzana did a fantastic job. I thought that Farzana's blurb explained what she did for maths which was good. I liked the way she added a video of subtraction. I learnt a lot from the video. I had fun commenting on Farzana's blog. Here is the link- Farzana's Blog

Basic Facts Boxes

This week for basic facts boxes I decided to do addition and subtraction. This time I decided to do up to 20. For basic facts boxes you have to choose either addition and subtraction or the times tables. For addition and subtraction you have to choose up to 5, up to 20 or up to 100. Then you have to complete the addition and subtraction equations. There are 10 boxes with 10 equations. I answered 100 equations all together.

Verb Tenses

LI: To identify verb tenses./LI: To identify the verb tenses: past, future and present continuous. This week for writing we made videos of the verbs. First we watched a 30 second clip of a owl. Before that we told each other our predictions. After we watched the clip, we told us other 10 verbs. Then we told the teacher the past, future or present word for the verb. Once we did that we got into partners. My partner was Charlize. In our partners we made a google slide to add in the videos of the verbs. We had to do 20 verbs and we couldn't use the verbs that we said before. The present continuous tells us about what something is happening now. The past tells us about what happened before. Lastly the future tells us about what will happen.

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our topic was respect for our community.

First we got into our four lines and talked about what community is. Community is a group of people who live in the same area.

After that, we did the energizer. For the energizer we got into a circle. Our legs had to be spread out. We could only use one hand to hit the ball through other people's legs. We had to protect our legs, so the ball didn't go through our legs. If the ball went through someone's leg, they would be out. We only played one round.

Once we played that game, we got into our four lines and talked about community. We talked about how to keep our community safe, communities and how to respect our community. Some communities are the hospital, the police station, the community hall and more. To respect our community we have to listen to them and more. Once we showed the teacher our writing, we got a piece of white paper. On the paper we had to display our layout of the quatrefoils. We couldn't glue it yet. After that we ruled the open space to put our writing on. Once we ruled it we went on a google draw and added our writing in. On page setup we put in our measurements of the space of the white piece of paper. Once we did the page setup we asked the teachers to print it out. After that we cut around our writing. When we finished, we started gluing our quatrefoils and writing onto the piece of white paper. We also glued our names on the bottom right corner. I am very proud of my quatrefoils. Quatrefoil Art Work

LI: To create quatrefoils using paint, pastel and colouring pencils. This week we did art. We had to go onto our three quatrefoils we made. Then we had to do the quatrefoils using paint, pastel and colouring pencils. For the Max Gimblett quatrefoil we had to use the big sized quatrefoil and we had to use paint, for the Armistice day quatrefoil we had to use the medium sized quatrefoil and we had to use pastel. Lastly for the Christmas themed quatrefoil we had to use the small sized quatrefoil and we had to use colouring pencils. First I started off with the Max Gimblett, then I did the Armistice and lastly I did the Christmas themed one. For the Max Gimblett quatrefoil, I decided to first draw the scribbles. I accidentally painted where I wasn't supposed to paint. Even though I painted where I wasn't supposed to paint, I think that I did a good job. For the Armistice quatrefoil I think that I also did pretty good, same for the Christmas quatrefoil.

The large quatrefoil is in the style of Max Gimblett. The colors green, blue, yellow and red represent my favorite colors.

The medium quatrefoil was in the style of Armistice Day. The cross represents the soldiers who died for countries, the poppies represents peace, the half green background represents the grass and the half orange and yellow represents the sunset.

The small quatrefoil is in the style of Christmas. The ornaments represent the ornaments that go on a Christmas tree, the holly represents Christmas and the candy canes represent the sweetness of Christmas.

For fast forward we had to walk forward, but fast. For rewind we had to walk backwards, for pause we had to jump and for play we had to walk. If someone did the wrong move, they would be out. Once we played one round, there was a new move added. The move was stop. For stop we had to lye down. We played two round of the energizer.

After we played remote, we sat in our four lines. We talked about communities, like in houses, malls, libraries and more. We also talked about why we have communities and how we should respect them. We should respect the communities, by listening to them, giving them space and more.

Once we talked about community, we played the activity. For the activity we played invisible tag outside on the court. For invisible tag we were split into two teams. One team had to go on one side of the court and the other had to go on the opposite side. If Mr. Matt said four, four people had to run up from each team and up to the hoops and into the middle of the court. When we ran up, Mr. Matt said someone's name. The person who got called had a invisible ball. They had to run up to the other side, to win a point. After a few rounds, my team won.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

On Wednesday the 7th of November, we had the Manaiakalani Film Festival at the Sylvia Park Cinema. I was really excited to watch other schools movies and our class's movie. My class's movie was about how Fau and Charlize won the challenge a bit dicey. Alayah and Victoria think that they cheated, so they get into a fight with Charlize and Fau. They start to kick and punch each other. At the end Mr. Johnston comes and they all go to Mr. Johnston's office. Once we watched all the schools movies we went on the bus and went back to class. I think that my class's movie was really cool and funny. My favourite part was when Mr. Johnston came and also when Victoria and Alayah thought that Fau and Charlize cheated. I really liked how our movie was a parody on dubbed martial art movies.
