Maori|Matching

LI: To match Maori places with their known names. This week for Maori we matched Maori places with their English meanings. We also wrote down which island it was on, like North Island or South Island.  We went on the Maori dictionary to find out what the Maori places mean. We went on the google maps to find out which Island it was on. I enjoyed matching the Maori places with their meanings and which island it is on.

Maori Lessons

This week for Maori we did a matching activity. There were the meaning of the Maori place names in English, on one side and at the bottom there were the Maori place names. We had to match the Maori place names with the meanings. We went on the Maori dictionary to translate the Maori place names.

Maori Lessons

This week for Maori we had Whaea Odie. First Whaea Odie read us a book which was called Paikea. The book was about how a brother who rode on a taniwha. His brother was jealous of riding the taniwha, so he killed his brother. The brother who killed his brother rode on the taniwha. His name was changed to Paikea, so it could match the name of the taniwha. Once we listened to the story we had to search Whangara School and Whakatane on google maps. Then we had to find out the distance between Whangara School and the sea. We also had to find out the distance between Whakatane and Whangara School. We had to use our smart searching skills to find out the information. Whakatane l is 212.6 km from Whangara School, and the sea is 509.7 km from Whangara School. After that we had to listen to a song called Paikea.

The Sons Of Ma'afu Lessons

 LI: To identify the purpose of narratives./LI: To identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends and fairytales. This week for reading we had to create a DLO about the lessons about a pacific myth and legend. First we had to choose a pacific myth and legend. We couldn't choose the one from last week. The story that I chose was The Sons Of Ma'afu. Once we chose our myth and legend we had to do the reading notes, before reading, during reading and after reading. After we made the DLO about the lessons of the myth and legend we chose. For the google slide I decided to add the summary, the lessons, the prediction, the questions and the digital drawing that I drew.

In The Beginning Lessons

LI: To identify the purpose of narratives./LI: To identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends and fairy tales. This week for reading we had to make a google slide teaching people about the lessons of pacific myths and legends. First we chose a pacific myth and legend. There was four choices which was The Kakangora, The Sons of Ma'afu, In The Beginning and A Piece Of Paradise. The story that I chose was In The Beginning. After we chose the story we wanted to do we did the reading notes. After we did our reading notes we created a google slide teaching people about the lessons. For the google slide I included my prediction, my questions before reading and after reading, my visualising, my summary and the lessons of the story.

Izanagi & Izanami Lessons

This week for reading we had to make a DLO about the lessons of a myth. First we chose a myth. We couldn't choose the myth we chose last week. The myths were Izanagi & Izanami from Japan, Mahishasura & Durga from India, Lac Long Quan from Vietnam and Cuchulainn from Ireland. The myth that I chose this time was Izanagi and Izanami from Japan. Once we chose our myth we did the reading notes. For the reading notes we needed to do reading strategies before reading, during reading and after reading. Once we did that we made a DLO teaching people the lessons of a myth. The DLO that I chose was a google slide. For the google slide I decided to include who Izanagi and Izanami is, Questions, a summary and the lessons.

Mahishasura & Durga Lessons

LI: To teach people the lessons of Mahishasura and Durga. This week for reading we had to make a DLO that teaches people lessons of a myth. First we got into partners. My partner was Alayah. We had to choose a myth. There was four myths. The myths were Izanagi and Izanami from Japan, Mahishasura & Durga from India, Lac Long Quan from Vietnam and Cuchulainn from Ireland. Alayah and I decided to choose Mahishasura and Durga from India. First we had to do the reading notes, before reading, during reading and after reading. Once we did that we made a google slide. Alayah and I included who Mahishasura is, who Durga is, Mahishasura and Durga questions and Mahishasura and Durga lessons.

Maui Lessons

 LI: To identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends and fairy tales. This week for reading we had to make a DLO about the lessons of Maui. First we had to do reading notes about Maui. The reading notes was reading strategies before reading, during reading and after reading. We had to do half of each. We had to read the story of Maui. Once we did that we had to make a DLO. I decided to choose a google slide. In the google slide I decided to include who Maui is, Maui questions and answers, a Maui summary and the lessons. I also decided to include a photo.

Tengu Lessons

LI: To learn about the lessons of tengu. This week for reading we had to make a google slide that teaches people about tengu and the lessons that stories of tengu teaches. First we had to read a story of tengu. Once we did that we had to make the google slide.  For the google slide I decided to include two summaries of different versions of tengu, things about tengu and the lessons tengu stories have teached. I decided to include pictures of tengu. I had a lot of fun learning about tengu and learning about the lessons tengu stories teaches people. One of the lessons are to not use anything for bad causes because you can get a consequence/punishment.
