Exploring Our National Current Events

This week in reading we explored the NZ national current events, the different types of these current events and thought about why these stories appeared on the news. Newspaper editors make choices about the current event stories they write, everyday. On a google maps we plotted the location of where the current event stories took place.

New Zealand Sign Language Week

This week Fiona came to our class and taught us New Zealand sign language. She taught us how to say words in sign language and facts. I learnt a lot information about sign language. Something I found interesting was that over 24,000 people use sign language when communicating to others. Our session with Fiona was great. After our awesome session with Fiona, we created a DLO about sign language. We included information about sign language and images of saying a word in sign language.

Boy On A Bike

This week for another session of reading, we read an article called "Boy On A Bike". Boy On A Bike is about how a boy called Mac and his dad Craig, travels around the north part of New Zealand on a Fat Bike, to raise money for St Johns. Mac raised more than $7000. My favorite part is how they never gave up with the traveling. After reading this book we did reciprocal reading. In reciprocal reading everyone has a reading strategies they do. The strategies are predicting, summarizing, questioning, clarifying and being the leader. Once we did reciprocal reading we created a DLO about the places Mac and Craig went to and the distances.
