Manticore vs Asian Dragon Debate

LI: To write a persuasive speech. This week for writing we had to write a persuasive speech. First we voted on two mythical creatures. The mythical creatures that we chose was the manticore and the Asian dragon. Once we chose the mythical creatures we had to research them. Once we researched them we had to write the persuasive speech. We had to choose which mythical creature would win in a fight. I chose the manticore. For the persuasive speech we had to write down the abilities of the mythical creature you chose. We had to use the oreo planner. Once we finished writing the persuasive speech we had to present it in front of the class. Before that the people who chose the manticore had to go on one side and the Asian dragon had to go on the other side. Three people from each side had to sit on chairs. The people in front of the chairs from each side had to roll a dice. The first person who got a odd number had to start with their speech. Once a person from each side said their speech, Mr. Wong had to tell us which speech was better. If the person's speech was better they got one point for their team. At the end the manticores side won.

Snag Golf

This week for kiwi sport we had snag golf. First we got into a group of three. In my group I had Victoria and Florence. After we got into groups we had to get our equipment. We could make our own obstacle course with it. We only had three shots. We had to make sure we had our hands on the correct colour. The obstacle course that my group and I did was to shoot the ball high over the target and we had to try and land it on the flag.

After we did the obstacle course we had a challenge. Before the challenge we had to put our equipment away. One person from each group had to get three balls. The person who got the ball had to give a ball to the other teammates, so we all had one ball each. Each group had different coloured balls.

After that we had to shoot the ball with our putter as far as we could using the tee. One person at a time from each group had to shoot. We all had turns. Out of us Lorenzo hit the ball the furthest. My ball landed on the edge of the field. Once we did the challenge we went back to class.

NZ Defence Force Visitor

Yesterday on Tuesday after lunch we had a NZ defence force visitor called Isaac. Isaac teached us about the defensive structures and bombs they used in wars.

First Isaac teached us the layers they used in war. The layers were shape, materials and camouflage. These layers were very important in war. Shape was used to make something curvy because if the enemies try to shoot with something it can go somewhere else. If something is straight the enemies will shoot it maybe with one shot. For the materials the people in war had to use good materials, something that was strong. If it was metal it would melt, so the people in war had to be careful of what materials they used. Lastly camouflage was used to disguise yourself or something.

After we learnt about the layers we learnt about the bombs and explosives. Some bombs were the dumb bombs and the smart bombs. The reason the dumb bombs were called the dumb bombs were because when you let it go and destroy something it only goes where you wanted it to go, it doesn't go anywhere else. For some smart bombs you could control where it goes. One of the explosives we learnt about was the dynamite.

Once we learnt about the defensive structures we had a construction challenge. For the challenge we first got into a group of 5. In my group I had Fau, Charlize, Liletina and Sulia. After that we got eight straws and one piece of paper. We had to build a structure that could keep a small helicopter from blowing away. We only had 10 minutes of making the structure. After we made our structure we had to put it on the benches. Mr. Wong put small toy helicopter in our structures. Mr. Wong, Mr. Ogilvie and Isaac got board and swang it up and down for the structure to fall. Some of our structures failed, like my groups one. I had a lot of fun learning about defensive structures and also creating the structures with my group.

Kiwi Can

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Lily. Our topic was persevere and our theme was resilience. First we went outside on the court. Then we played the energiser called tangled. For tangled there was a tagger. The tagger had to tag people. If someone got tagged they had to hold hands or hold arms with the tagger. Only the end of the link could tag the other people. We couldn't go past the yellow line. The link got really big which made it hard for us to run away. Sometimes the link was broken because we went our own ways.

After we played our energiser we played the activity which was called invisible touch. For invisible touch we got into two groups. One group had to line up on one side and the other group had to line up on the other side. Ms. Lily called out a number like three. The three people that were in the front of each team had to run around the hoop. Ms. Lily would call out who has the invisible ball. The person with the invisible ball had to run to the other team's hoop. We all had turns playing. At the end we did our catchphrase and went back to class.

Duffy Visit-Michael Mulipola

Yesterday on Tuesday we had a Duffy visit. First we sang the Duffy song.

After that a comic book artist called Michael Mulipola told us about himself. His inspirations were school journals. Michael Mulipola had illustrated a lot of comic books. He told us that he learnt how to draw by himself, because there was no art schools that was for comics.

Micheal Mulipola told us that he was more than just a comic artist, he was a professional wrestler and a semi pro gamer. Michael Mulipola got a reward for the professional wrestler, but someone else won it because Michael Mulipola lost to another wrestler. The video game that Michael Mulipola played was Tekken. He played it in front of about 2,000 people and versed other people. He didn't win, but he tried.

Michael Mulipola showed us the comic book that he created. His drawings were the best drawings that I have ever seen. The books that Michael Mulipola illustrated was school journals, WWE comic books and more. Micheal Mulipola told us that he loved illustrating because he could use his creativity and he could draw anything. At the end Michael Mulipola showed us something that he drew. It was him picking his nose. It looked really cool.

After Micheal Mulipola told us about himself we could ask questions. Then Michael Mulipola and a man from Main freight handed out our Duffy books. Once we got the Duffy books we went back to class.

This week for kiwi sport we had snag golf with our teacher Mr. Ogilvie. First we got into groups of three. In my group I had Karlos and Sulia. We got equipment and did what Mr. Ogilvie told us to do. First we had to shoot the ball into the hoop with the putter. We had to face the hall if we were right handed and we had to face the field if we were left handed. For the putter if we were right handed our right hand had to go on the red and your left hand had to go on the yellow. Same for left hand because the putters are different, one is for left handed people and the other is for right handed people. We only had three balls to shoot. Then we did that same thing, but the hoop was at the back. After we did that we had to shoot the ball over the target and try to get it into the hoop. The point of the putter was to shoot the ball high in the air. We had turns playing. We did other things. We had a challenge. If we got the ball over the target, bounced it on the hoop and stuck to the flag we would get 20 points. Once we played snag golf we went back to class.

Firearm/Rifles History

LI: To identify how to overcome earthwork fortifications using technology. This week for inquiry we had to create a DLO about information on a new technology used in war. We got into our groups and played a round of villager attack.

When we found the technology's we had to choose the one that was interesting to us. We chose the firearm/rifle.

We could put as many fingers up. We could only put 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 fingers up. If someone put two fingers up and the other person put five fingers up, they both had to say how much it adds up to. The fastest person who said it won and the loser had to sit down. The winner had to carry on versing other people. We could use two hands. We could put as many fingers up as we wanted.

Once we played add on we talked about frustration. After that we played no frustration. Mr. Matt put us into 5 groups. In my group I had Victoria, Florence, Angelica, Sulia and Liane. Each group got a bunch of cards. We had to create something cool using all the cards. We couldn't get frustrated. It was very hard for us because the cards kept on falling.
