Activity 3: Choose your own

This week for day 5, activity 3, for teaser week of SLJ, we created a DLO about an inventor, technologist or a scientist. Taheesha and I decided to create a DLO about Keith Alexander. Keith Alexander is a mechanical engineer and invented the spring free trampolines. In our DLO, we included the name of the person, a description of the work he did and an explanation of how his work has an impact on others. This was our last week of the teaser week for SLJ. Next week we will start the SLJ activities worth of points. 

Activity 2: Impossible Burgers

This week for day 5, activity 2 of teaser week for SLJ, we wrote the nutrition differences between the new impossible burger and the original impossible burger. Pat brown was the founder of these impossible burgers. The impossible burgers are vegetarian burgers that are plant based which taste, feel and look like meat. For our activity we wrote the differences between the calories, the saturated fat and the sodium between these two burgers.

Activity 1: The Social Network

This week for day 5, activity 1 of teaser week for SLJ, we created a DLO based on 5 cyber smart rule while on social media. Taheesha and I worked together to create this DLO. One of the important rules of being cybersmart on social media is to not share any personal information or photos to strangers. These rules are very important while on social media, which is why we should be cyber smart. 

Activity 3: Mass Migration

My Opinion Of American, Mexican Border: I think that Donald Trump shouldn't have put a wall between America and Mexico just to stop people from coming to the U.S, because people need a better life, jobs and food to feed their families. In countries near Mexico, like Guatemala and Honduras, there isn't many things to help people which is why there shouldn't be a wall between Mexico and America.

This week for day 4, activity 3 of teaser week for SLJ, we thought about the Mexico and American wall. As president of U.S, Donald Trump decided to put a wall between Mexico and America to stop people from coming to the U.S. We imagined that Donald Trump called us over and asked us about our opinion of the wall. For this problem, we wrote down our opinions, if we think Donald Trump should put the wall between the two countries or not and why. Above I have written why Donald Trump should not put the wall between America and Mexico.

Activity 2: Fighting for Freedom

Issue I would protest over: For me I would nonviolently protest over how some people talk about Muslim cultures/communities. This is important to me, because some people have been racist towards our Muslim culture. For example they talk about our culture in a bad way and they also talk about our hijabs and some people try and get a way to remove them from us. This is why I would nonviolently protest for the Muslim community/culture. 

This week for day 4, activity 2 of teaser week for SLJ, we wrote down what we would protest over nonviolently and why its important to us, like how Mahatma Ghandi protested, so that British could stop ruling over India and so India could have freedom. My issue I would protest nonviolently over is how some people have been racist about the Muslim community/culture.

Activity 1: Leading the Charge

5 Changes I Would Make For Our School: 

• Have more trips to different places, so students can have fun and learn.
• Have a swimming pool, since its summer and everyone gets hot.
• Have more mufti days.
• In summer I would have 4 days of school.
• Every Friday there would be time to have fun and play different activities.

This week in day 4, activity 1 of teaser week for SLJ, we wrote 5 changes we would make for our school. We imagined that we were hired to be the principal of our school for 1 week and we could make different changes. One of the changes I would make if I was the principal is that I would have more mufti days. Above I have written a list of the 5 changes I would make.

Activity 3: The Columbian Exchange

Positive Impact On My Life: 
Someone who has a positive impact on my life is my sister. Throughout the years my sister has been helping and supporting me throughout different opportunities and activities. She has been with me to different places and is always there for me whether I'm sad or angry. She has also encouraged and motivated me to do things that I am scared of or things I want to do but am not confident in myself. My sister is always been kind and caring and a great sister, someone I can always rely on. She has been a great role model and inspirational sister and I hope to be like her.

This week for day 3, activity 3 of teaser week for SLJ, we explained someone who has a positive impact on our life. For me, someone who has been a positive impact in my life is my sister. Above I have explained why she has been a positive impact to me. One of the reasons my sister has been a positive impact is because she has encouraged me through different things.

Activity 2: When the Rubber Hits the Road

This week for day 3, activity 2 for teaser week of SLJ, we interviewed our friends about what they are proud of or their achievements of their family or themselves. I decided to interview Taheesha, Miiana, and Marieta. Each of them have great achievements/what they are proud of. My achievement is that my confidence has been boosted up and I have presented different DLO's confidently. Also that my two sisters have graduated university. One of them is a nurse and the other is an accountant. 

Activity 2:Equal Pay for Equal Work?

This week for day 2, activity 2 for teaser week of SLJ, we thought about the gender pay gap with the silver ferns, how the silver ferns were payed less than the All Blacks. The silver ferns have just become professional women rugby players. If we thought it would be fair or not for the gender pay gap, we would include why.

Gender Pay Gab | Is It Fair?- I think it isn't fair for women to be payed less than men in sports, because women have the rights to have the same amount of money and both women and men are equal, so why be payed less than men. That's just not fair. 

Activity 3: Big Friendly Giants

This week for day 1, activity 3 for the teaser week of SLJ, our challenge was to write a character description and a drawing  of the big friendly giant. Before that we listened to David Williams reading a page of the BFG, where the big friendly giant talks about one of his favourite hobbies to Sophie. David Williams is a British actor and comedian. After we listened to the BFG, we created our character description and drawing. In the character description, I included the BFG's personality and what he looks like.

Activity 2:Exploring Our Roots

This week for the second activity, day 1 of the teaser week of SLJ, we created a pepeha which is how Taika Waititi wrote it to introduce himself to other people. Taika Waititi is a NZ filmmaker, comedian, actor and directer. He created popular films like Thor "Ragnarok". As we created the pepeha, we used our creativity to make our pepeha stand out. For my pepeha I decided to add images next to it. 

Activity 1:New Zealand Royalty

This week we started the teaser week for SLJ. The teaser week is when you practise doing activities until the Summer learning journey activities start. I was working with Taheesha & Tuku for the first teaser activity. We created a profile page about Lorde, which included her full name, five interesting facts, her passion/things she likes doing and who Lorde is. Lorde is a New Zealand songwriter/singer. I have learnt a lot of interesting facts about Lorde like how her best friend is Taylor Swift and how her first record deal was when she was only 13.
