"Under The Waves Of Kanagawa"

This morning we tried one of this year’s Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous painting or images of landmarks around the world. Something I found interesting about this art colouring book, was how it was easy to use the different colors and how the original colors of the painting were on the palette, as well as pop colors, as we could combine different colors. 

Tuakana Teina

This week for Maori language week, we helped ruma kotahi (room 1) and ruma korua (room 2) create string art panels. For this art block, my buddy, Mila drew her designs, as I helped her. Then we cut the string and used glue to attach it on Mila's designs. Once we finished attaching the string, we painted over the string. Helping our little buddies Maori context, is called tuakana teina, meaning teaching younger kids Maori. This was a really fun day of painting. I am excited to continue on our art panels next week.

Painting Sunflowers

LI: To paint a still life of sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.

This week in Art, we painted a still life of sunflowers, in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. First we practiced painting sunflowers. We watched a video on how to make sunflowers, as we didn't know how to. We then painted our background for our sunflowers. We also drew a vase and circles for our sunflowers, using chalk. When we painted our sunflowers, we thought of the tone and shading needed, made use of all the space that was available, used layers of paint, mixed and blended the colors to make different shades, created sharp edges and lines, thought about the brush stroke direction, dabbed the brush and didn't overload the brush with paint. I really enjoyed painting these sunflowers as it was very fun to do. 

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline

LI: To create a timeline to show the life of Vincent Van Gogh.

This week, for literacy and inquiry we worked together to create a timeline of Vincent Van Gogh’s life. We used our smart searching skills to find information about Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent was an Impressionist artist, meaning he liked to paint a moment in time (still life). I worked collaboratively with Haylee, Florence, and Taheesha to get this timeline completed. We enjoyed learning about Vincent Van gogh as we were able to learn something new. Something we all found interesting was that he cut off a part of his ear and sent it to his girlfriend, because he got into an argument with Paul Gauguin, who is one of his friends. This was interesting, because we wouldn’t imagine someone cutting off part of their ear.

Cityscape of Kabul

LI: To write a description of my cityscape using prepositions

This is my cityscape of Kabul. In the middle of my cityscape is Kabul Tower, which is the most prominent building. The Kabul Tower is the tallest building in Afghanistan and is 18 stories high. It cost about 773.9 million dollars, and took 2 years to build. To the right in this cityscape is Eidgah Great Mosque. Did you know that about 1 million people pray there for Eid? The buildings in front of Kabul stand out brightly. Not many people know that every year 20,000 people visit Kabul. To the left of this cityscape is Tajbeg Palace, which is home to the royal family. 

For my cityscape I decided to create a warm colored background, consisting with the colors of red, yellow and orange to make a sunset. For my background I used chalk pastels, which helped me blend in my colors together. I used white to make my background a bit lighter. My cityscape includes a reflection from the water, making it look more detailed.

Art Digital Drawing

LI: To learn how to draw animals.

This week for one of our home learning activities, we created a drawing of any animal from the Auckland Zoo. I decided to draw an elephant. We could draw an animal on paper or digitally. I drew an elephant digitally, because it was easier for me to do. I think the elephant turned out pretty good.

Steampunk Art

This week LS1 and I went to LS2 to do steampunk art. Steampunk art is machines are mixed with art. We drew steampunk art. We searched steampunk art to draw. We could use our imaginations if we wanted. I decided to draw a pizza with a light bulb, a bird with machines, a teddy bear with machines and more. I had a lot of fun drawing steampunk art. I think my steampunk art was bad, but at least I tried.

Mounted Art Work

LI: To mount our final results of our quatrefoils. This week we finished off our quatrefoils. Once we finished our quatrefoils we cut around it. After that, we wrote down why we chose the designs and colors on our quatrefoils. We showed our writing to the teachers, so they could proofread it. Once we showed the teacher our writing, we got a piece of white paper. On the paper we had to display our layout of the quatrefoils. We couldn't glue it yet. After that we ruled the open space to put our writing on. Once we ruled it we went on a google draw and added our writing in. On page setup we put in our measurements of the space of the white piece of paper. Once we did the page setup we asked the teachers to print it out. After that we cut around our writing. When we finished, we started gluing our quatrefoils and writing onto the piece of white paper. We also glued our names on the bottom right corner. I am very proud of my quatrefoils. I think that it turned out good.

Quatrefoil Art Work

LI: To create quatrefoils using paint, pastel and colouring pencils. This week we did art. We had to go onto our three quatrefoils we made. Then we had to do the quatrefoils using paint, pastel and colouring pencils. For the Max Gimblett quatrefoil we had to use the big sized quatrefoil and we had to use paint, for the Armistice day quatrefoil we had to use the medium sized quatrefoil and we had to use pastel. Lastly for the Christmas themed quatrefoil we had to use the small sized quatrefoil and we had to use colouring pencils. First I started off with the Max Gimblett, then I did the Armistice and lastly I did the Christmas themed one. For the Max Gimblett quatrefoil, I decided to first draw the scribbles. I accidentally painted where I wasn't supposed to paint. Even though I painted where I wasn't supposed to paint, I think that I did a good job. For the Armistice quatrefoil I think that I also did pretty good, same for the Christmas quatrefoil.

The large quatrefoil is in the style of Max Gimblett. The colors green, blue, yellow and red represent my favorite colors.

The medium quatrefoil was in the style of Armistice Day. The cross represents the soldiers who died for countries, the poppies represents peace, the half green background represents the grass and the half orange and yellow represents the sunset.

The small quatrefoil is in the style of Christmas. The ornaments represent the ornaments that go on a Christmas tree, the holly represents Christmas and the candy canes represent the sweetness of Christmas.

Sunset Silhouette Art

This week we did art. For art we made our silhouettes which was our city scapes. First we chose a city. I chose the Auckland city. After we went on a google draw and put a photo of our city on. Then we out lined the city using shapes or polyvinyl. We chose the one that was easy for us. I chose both polyvinyl and shapes. We coloured our silhouettes black. Once we did that we deleted the photo of the city and coloured the background of the google draw white. We made sure the google draw page was A4. After that we downloaded the png and put in a folder that the teacher sent us. Our city scapes got printed.

After we could chose sunsets for our backgrounds. I used my imagination for the background. Once we chose our backgrounds we got a piece of black paper. We put our names on the back. We got coloured pieces of paper and started cutting out shapes. If we were happy with our background we could glue it onto the black paper. Our background had to be A4.

The teachers cut out our city scapes and called out our names to get it. Once we got our city scapes we glued it onto our background. I had lots of fun making a city scape art. I was happy with my background and my city scape.

A silhouette is a image or art of either a object, a person or a animal. A silhouette is a single colour which is mostly the colour black.

Pop Art- Self Portrait

LI: To use different techniques to create a visual art piece. This week for art we had to make a self portrait of ourselves. Our self portrait had to be pop art. When we finished making a slef portrait of ourselves we had to make a DLO showing what we did first, next, after and what we did last. We had to take photos of all 4 pictures. When we were doing the first step we had to take a photo, when we were doing the next step we had to take a photo, when we were doing the third step we had to take a photo and when we finished our piece of art we had to take a photo so we could put it beside the text. I think I did a great job at making a self portrait of my self.
