Kiwi Can Reflection

LI: To include and engage others by being sensitive to their feelings.  This week was our first session of Kiwi Can with Mrs Mac and Ms. Grace. The theme for this term was positive relationships, fairness, and Fair play. We started with an energiser, called Change Places. For this activity, Ms Grace called out some things that we might like and if we liked it, we would change places with a different person. After we did our energiser, we talked about words related to empathy, which were courtesy, common sense, and consideration.  Some examples to show courtesy with words are having manners, being kind, and being polite. Some other examples to show courtesy without words are hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language. To show common sense, you make wise choices and trust your instincts. Some ways to show consideration is thinking about others and how people may feel. Lastly, we talked about some ways to show empathy which are, being kind, supportive and being considerate. After that, we did an activity, where we acted out the positive or negative ways of showing empathy. In our group our play was about someone crying because she was bullied, so we decided to cheer her up.

Why We Should Show Respect, Empathy & Tolerance To Different Cultures?

Do you ever show values to different cultures? Well, it’s important to show respect, tolerance and empathy to other people, whether it’s their culture or their belief. We probably dislike some cultures, but we still have to show these values to other people. What if someone didn’t show any respect, tolerance and empathy to your culture or beliefs? If you don’t show values to others, than you won’t get the same values back. Would you like it if you didn't get the same respect?

Respect!What is respect? Well respect is showing manners to others. We should show respect to these different cultures. It doesn’t matter if you dislike cultures. As long as you respect different cultures, other people will respect yours. Show manners and you’ll receive manners back. If I have a friend and I dislike their culture I am still respectful. Not showing respect can lead to other people being offended and angry. Showing respect is the best policy, just like empathy.

Empathy is understanding other people, like their different cultures. Showing empathy to different cultures can really help you learn more about these cultures and you might even have an interest in them. I understand some of the different cultures, and you should too. This is why we should show empathy too.

What is tolerance? Tolerance is when you accept other people’s likes, cultures and more. Accepting these cultures are also very important. We should accept all the cultures, like we accept our own. We may dislike some cultures, but we should still accept it. What if your culture and beliefs weren’t accepted? If we don’t show tolerance, than we we won’t receive it, with our cultures. To receive tolerance you need to show it first.

This is why we should show these different values. Even if you dislike cultures, at least show respect, empathy and tolerance. Remember if you show these values you’ll receive it as well, from other people!

For the last activity of earning my respect badge, I decided to do the activity where we made a collage about life of being at Panmure Bridge School. I added a lot of images, like athletics day, the Sky Tower trip and more. These are the photos that I think is life of being at Panmure Bridge School. There are a lot of fun learning activities you can do at this school. I have had a lot of fun creating this collage.

Thank You Letter To Mrs. Anderson|Care Awards

For my second activity of earning my silver respect badge, I needed to write a thank you letter to a teacher or staff member. I decided to write this thank you letter to Mrs. Anderson, because she was my new teacher. Something I wrote for my thank you letter was how Mrs. Anderson was very helpful for the past few days, since I came to LS2.

Showing Respect|Care Awards

Today I completed my first silver CARE award activity. CARE stands for Confidence, Attitude, Respect and Excellence and Innovation. These are the PBS important values that the students strive for. My activity was for my respect badge. We did at least 5 activities to earn a badge. For my activity I needed to show respect using photos. The photos I took were picking up rubbish, showing respect and putting your hand up.

Kiwi Can|Fun Week

This week for kiwi can we had Ms. Paige and Ms. Peehok. This week was fun week and the last week of kiwi can.  We recapped on our topics and theme on how we can respect it. The topics were respect for our school, community and environment and the theme was respect. We did a challenge using the catchphrases that we learnt. The first catchphrase was "kiwi can says take pride, in who you are,  respect the school and you'll go far". The next catchphrase was " kiwi can says we come in unity for our community". The last catchphrase was "kiwi can says respect our waters, air and trees and keep it tidy and keep it clean". We tried to memorise and say the catchphrases without the kiwi can leaders' help We played three games for fun week. The games we played was "invisible tag, ten second tag and octopus". We did GKQ, the master version. After that we went back to class. I enjoyed kiwi can a lot. The thing that I loved most about kiwi can was the activities and the energisers.

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our new topic was respect for our environment.

First we started off with the energizer which was called "Snake". For this game someone was the tagger. The tagger had to act like a snake and had to tag people. The tagger had to lye down on their stomach. If someone got tagged they also had to act like a snake and try to tag people. For the first round Mojtaba was the tagger and for the other round Alayah was the tagger. The last person standing would be the winner.

After that, we sat into our four lines and talked about how we can respect the environment. We respect the environment by picking up rubbish and more.

Once we talked about how we can respect the environment, we moved onto the activity which was called "Tic Tac Toe". For "Tic Tac Toe" we got into groups of five and one group of six. In my group I had Florence, Victoria, Alayah, Miiana and Sulia. We had to name our group. Our group name was "Islanders". For this game there were nine chairs which was placed like "Tic Tac Toe". There was two groups who was versing at a time. Each person had to run to a chair and sit down. One group were the o's and the other were the x's. The winner of this activity was " The Footballers".

We did GKQ/General Knowledge questions after playing "Tic Tac Toe". For GKQ/Geneneral Knowledge we played the master version. We all got into a circle. Someone was the master. They had to go to someone. Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige would ask questions. If someone answered correctly, they would be the master.

Once we played GKQ/General Knowledge Questions, we did our class catch phrase and went back to class.

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our topic was respect for our community.

First we got into our four lines and talked about what community is. Community is a group of people who live in the same area.

After that, we did the energizer. For the energizer we got into a circle. Our legs had to be spread out. We could only use one hand to hit the ball through other people's legs. We had to protect our legs, so the ball didn't go through our legs. If the ball went through someone's leg, they would be out. We only played one round.

Once we played that game, we got into our four lines and talked about community. We talked about how to keep our community safe, communities and how to respect our community. Some communities are the hospital, the police station, the community hall and more. To respect our community we have to listen to them and more. To keep our community safe we have to help them and more.

After we talked about community, we did the activity. For the activity we played handball. For handball we were split into two groups. We had to name our group. One group had to go on one side and the other had to go on the other side. My group's name was the cookie potatoes. We were numbered 1 to 13. I was number 5. There were cones on each side. If Mr. Matt called out a number or numbers, the people who got numbered that number had to go up and hit the ball in between the cones. The first group who got 10 points would win. For this game my group won.

We did GKQ/General Knowledge Questions after we played handball. The master was Mojtaba and the winner was Sandra.

After we did GKQ we went back to class.

 LI: To learn about the community and respect about the community. This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our topic was respect for our community. 

First we started off with the energizer. The energizer was called remote. For remote we did remote moves. For the moves there was fast forward, rewind, pause and play. For fast forward we had to walk forward, but fast. For rewind we had to walk backwards, for pause we had to jump and for play we had to walk. If someone did the wrong move, they would be out. Once we played one round, there was a new move added. The move was stop. For stop we had to lye down. We played two round of the energizer.

After we played remote, we sat in our four lines. We talked about communities, like in houses, malls, libraries and more. We also talked about why we have communities and how we should respect them. We should respect the communities, by listening to them, giving them space and more.

Once we talked about community, we played the activity. For the activity we played invisible tag outside on the court. For invisible tag we were split into two teams. One team had to go on one side of the court and the other had to go on the opposite side. If Mr. Matt said four, four people had to run up from each team and up to the hoops and into the middle of the court. When we ran up, Mr. Matt said someone's name. The person who got called had a invisible ball. They had to run up to the other side, to win a point. After a few rounds, my team won.

After we played that game we went back to class.

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our topic was respect for our community. First we talked about the community. Community is a group of people who lives in the same area you live in.

Once we talked about the community we moved onto the energiser, which was called catch me if you can. For this game we had to get into a circle. Then we had to put our left hand out. We also had to put our index finger on the person's hand next to us. When Mr. Matt said go we had to catch the person's finger and we also had to try and not let the other person catch our finger. If someone did catch our finger we were out. We had to sit near the windows and watch the others play.

After that we played 10 second tag. For this game there was a tagger. The tagger had to try and tag other people. If someone got tagged they were in and had to try and tag someone. They couldn't tag the same person that they got tagged from. Mr. Matt had to count down from 10 seconds. When 10 seconds ended we had to stop. The last person that got tagged war out. We practised in class, then we went down to the court to play.

When we finished playing this game we went back to class.

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. First we started off with the energiser. The energiser was called centre ball. For this game we had to make a circle. Ms. Paige numbered us 1 to 4. If Ms. Paige said 1, the people who got numbered 1 had to run around clockwise and back to their spot. Then they had to run to the middle and get the ball. We all had turns to play. 

Once we played this game we sat down in our four lines and talked about respect and the school rules.

After we did that we moved onto the activity. The activity was called bus stop. For bus stop we got split into 5 groups. In my group I had Miiana, Sione T and Pua. We received a piece of paper and a felt tip. We had to draw 6 lines vertical and one line horizontal. We also had to write down the categories, which were boy name, girl name, food, animal and colour. We also had to include the total. Once we did that Ms. Paige and Mr. Matt called out a letter. We had to write down words that started with the letter. If it was e we had to write down a boy name, a girl name, a food, a animal and a colour starting with e. If we finished we had to say bus stop. The rest of the group had to stop. After that we had to tell the boy name, girl name and more. If two groups or more had the same answer then we would get 5, but if no one got the same answer then we get 10 points. The winner of bus stop was my group.

Once we played that we went back to class.

Kiwi Can

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and a new teacher called Ms. Paige. Our new theme was respect and our new topic was respect for school. First we started off with our energiser which was called rules or no rules. For rules or no rules we started off with the no rules. For the no rules we had to tag each other and we didn't have any rules. For the rules there was two taggers. They had a pool noodle. The taggers had to try and tag the rest of us and there was also rules. Once we played rules or no rules we talked about what respect is and our values. Respect is when you treat people, objects and places. My value is my family. Once we talked about that we played the activity called role play. For role play we got into four groups. In my group I had Alayah, Sulia, Liane and Sandra. After that we had to do the same role play. We could either choose the role play with no respect or respect. We chose the role play with no respect. The role play was where there was shared lunch and that two students felt left out because they didn't bring any food for shared lunch. Once we played role play we did GKQ/General Knowledge Questions. After that we went back to class.

Kiwi Can

This week we had kiwi can with Ms. Latoya and Ms. Lily. For all the sessions we played games. First Ms. Lily had to put us into 2 groups. After we got into groups we had to go outside to play a game. For the game 1 of the groups had to be the taggers and the other had to try and run away. The taggers had a ball to tag a person that is not in their group. The taggers couldn't move around with the ball and they couldn't throw the ball to tag someone. If we went in a hula hoop we were safe and we could only stay in the hula hoop for 5 seconds. For the next game we had to get into our group and make a circle. 1 person from the other group had to come in the middle of the circle. There was a cone in the middle too. The person that was in the middle had to try and stop the ball from hitting the cone. The group that was around the circle had to try and roll the ball to the cone, so that the cone falls down. If the cone falls down the person in the middle had to go back to their circle. Then another person had to be in the group. For the last game we had to go back inside and practice making a tower with trays and a bucket. Then we had to go back outside and make the tower again. After 2 people from each team had to be in the middle. Ms. Latoya or Ms. Lily had to throw the ball up high and the 2 people had to try and catch the ball. 1 team had to wear bibs.  The person that catches the ball had to pass it to someone in their team. The person with the ball couldn't move. Their was a person by the tower so that they could keep it from falling. We had to try and throw the ball to the other groups tower, so that it could fall down. If the tower fall the group that crushed it with the ball won. Once we finished playing the game we went back to class.

This week we had kiwi can with Ms. Latoya and Mr. Malu. Our topic or theme was still on Respect and Empathy. First we had to tell Ms. Latoya what empathy means. Empathy means when you put yourself into another person's place. Ms. Latoya had to put us into 4 groups. In my group I had Victoria, Karlos, Akuhata, Hosea and Andrew. The first game that we played was greeting. For greetings Ms. Latoya had to tell us a greeting. Then she showed us the action of the greeting. We had to get into partners and when Ms. Latoya said a greeting to us we had to do the action together. Ms. Latoya told us to swap partners and we did. A partner that did it to slowly had to sit down. Once we finished playing greetings we had to get back into our groups and we had to play props. Props is when you change a object into something else. The first object that we had to change was a bean bag. Every group had a turn of turning the object into something else. My group turned the bean bag into a phone. We didn't turn 1 object into something else, we changed other objects too. When we finished playing Props we went outside to play buddy up buddy down. For buddy down and buddy up we had to be in 2 circles. 1 big circle and 1 small circle. The small circle had to be in the middle of the big circle. We also had to be in partners. I was with Victoria. Your partner had to be in the big circle and you had to be in the small circle. When Ms. Latoya said buddy up we had to swap circles, when she said buddy down we had to sit down, if she said buddy left the person who was in the big circle had to run around the circle from the left and if Ms. Latoya said buddy right the person that was in the big circle had to run from the right. The last pair to do buddy up, buddy down, buddy left or buddy right had to sit down near a tree. We couldn't finish the whole game because the bell rang. We had to line up outside and we went back to class.

Kiwi Can

For Kiwi Can this week we had Ms.Latoya. Ms.Latoya had to put us into groups of 4. When we got into groups we recapped on what we did last week. Ms.Latoya also asked us what Respect Communication means. It means when you put yourself into another person's place. When we did that we played Smelly Socks. Smelly Socks is when there is 4 hula hoops and when Ms.Latoya had to make a beat and say numbers like 10 or 5 that much feet has to be in a hula hoop. If you got left out you had to sit near Ms.Latoya. Smelly Socks was lots of fun because you had to try and not get left out. The next thing we played was called bean bag. For bean bag we had to get back into our groups. Then 2 teams had to sit down with Ms.Latoya. The other teams had to choose if they wanted to be taggers or not taggers. The taggers had to have a bean bag and they could run with the bean bag. They had to pass it to each other to get the people out. If you got out you had to sit with Ms. Latoya. When Ms. Latoya said time we had to stop playing and the other teams came up. I tried not to get out, but I did. I did tag some people with the bean bag, but not all. Once we finished playing bean bag we did GKQ/General Knowledge Questions. We had to get into our groups and the first row of the teams had to stand up. Ms. Latoya asked us some questions. We had to say yes if we had the answer. When the first row finished answering the question the 2nd row had to stand up. It kept going on and on. When we finished doing GKQ we did our phrase and went back to class.

Kiwi Can

This week we had Kiwi Can in the hall with Ms. Latoya and Mr. Malu. We were still focusing on Respect. First Mr. Malu had to put us into 4 groups. Then we did Evaluation. For Evaluation we had to acts like a egg. Then we had to try and tag each other by rolling to someone and tagging them. If you got tagged you had to be a kiwi and tag other people. If you got tagged and your a kiwi you have to act like a chicken. If you got tagged as a chicken you had to go back to being a egg. Once we finished playing the energiser we played a activity called Flip it. One of the teams had to flip the cones down and the other team had to flip the cones up. When we finished playing each round Mr. Malu had to count the cones to see which group won. Once we finished playing Flip it we started doing GKQ/General Knowledge Questions. Instead of have 4 people doing it at the same time we had to sit in a circle. 1 person had to stand behind the person next to them. Then Ms. Latoya had to ask questions. If the person sitting down got it right they had to stand behind the next person. If the person standing up got it wrong they had to sit down. We kept on playing this till the bell rang. When we finished doing GKQ we had to do our own phrase. Then we had to line up and go back to class.

Kiwi Can

Today we had kiwi can in room 7 with Mr. Malu and Ms. Latoya. The first thing we did was recapping on what we did last week. After we played knots. For knots we had to get into circles. Then we had to put up our right hand a hold it with the person in front of us. We also had to put up our left hand and to the same thing. Once we did that we had to try and untangle each other without letting go of each other. We couldn't do untangle each other but at least we tried. We only got 3 people out, but not all. This game was tricky for me and I thought that it was tricky for other people in my group. For this other game we had to get into the same group, but Ms. Latoya changed 3 of us to 2 other teams. We went outside to play this game. 1 team had to sit out on the benches and the other teams had to play the game. We needed a leader of our team. The leader of our team was Matthew.He told us what we should do to win. We always had to be the defenders and the other teams had to be the attacker.  To play the game we had to try and put the ball on the ground and pass it to the other person so they could do the same thing. We had to try and pass it to each other 5 times so that we could win. My group won all of the rounds except for 1 round. Once we finished we did our catch phrase and went back to class.
