Summarising The Main Ideas

This week for current events we found an article and summarise the main ideas. After we summarised, to make it more succinct, we turned it into a 10 syllable and 5 sentences summary. In this current events Sela, Haylee, Joel and I worked as a group and selected 1 of the topics which was “All Blacks defeat Ireland”.

The All Blacks have made an amazing progress and have won all of their rounds. During halftime the score was 20 to 0, 2 tries by Aaron Smith and 1 by Beauden Barret. The All Blacks are now in the semi finals playing against England later on. A big loss, but a proud achievement for Ireland reaching this far in the rugby world cup.

10 Syllable 5 Sentence Summary- New Zealand has won against Ireland. The All Blacks scored 46 to 14. 3 tries were scored by Aaron and Beauden. The Ireland team were disappointed. The All Blacks will now play against England.

Main Ideas|The Space Race

This week for a fresh start of reading, we wrote the main ideas of the "Space Race". We created a DLO of all the important ideas, 4 very important ideas and 3 of the vital ideas. We started by writing all the important ideas. Then we picked 4 of the very important ideas from all the important ideas. After that we picked 3 of the vital ideas from 4 of the very important ideas. Joel, Avalon, Chavda, Miiana and I were working together to complete the main ideas. One of the main ideas we thought of was how in 1957 Russia created the very first satellite to launch into space.

I think the main idea of this text is that a lot of rubber ducks were lost overboard because of the cargo boat getting caught by a storm. Scientists have been following the rubber duck to understand more about how the ocean currently works.

One example of a supporting detail is the rubber ducks travel to far places like Antarctica, United States or even Australia.

Another example of a supporting detail is if you find at least 1 rubber duck that says the first years  you will get 100 dollar from the US and a lot of rubber ducks will be floating around rubbish.

It is clear that the main idea is A lot of rubber ducks were lost overboard because of the cargo boat getting caught in a storm and then all of the rubber ducks floating around the ocean for a long time. Because it talks about how the rubber ducks were floating around the ocean for scientist to understand more about how the ocean works.

LI:To identify the main ideas in a text

For writing this week I had to read 2 texts and 1 youtube video. After that I had to write what I think the main idea is, giving 2 examples of what the supporting detail is, what you think the actual main idea is and why you chose it. I learnt this by going on the class site and finding what the task is. I also learnt this by watching and reading the video and the texts. This quite hard and a little bit easy to do.
