Summer Learning Journey|Taking Flight|Bird Of The Year!

A back-fronted tern lives in the North and South Island. They eat mayflies, stone flies and small fish. They have a orange beak, a black face and the rest of its body is white. They have little orange legs and they have big wings.

This week for activity 1, day 3 of week 3 of Summer Learning Journey, we had to write a short description of a bird we choose that was bird of the year once. We had to include where it lives, what it eats and a picture of the bird. We had to make sure we included the attribution. The bird I chose was a black-fronted tern.

  1. Kia ora Sakina,

Georgia here, from the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster! You will be seeing me and Dani floating around your cluster today because you guys are so busy. It is awesome to see how much effort and joy you guys are putting into your blog posts, keep this up!

I am really learning something new with every blog post that I read! I have never heard of this bird the ‘black-fronted tern’ which lives in our very own country. It is truly a spectacular bird, the orange legs and black head really stand out! You have also used some awesome adjectives such as ‘little’ and ‘big’ to describe the bird. Have you ever seen the ‘black-fronted tern’ before?

    Keep up the awesome work.
    Blog you later!

  2. Hi Sakina,
Great job on completing this activity! I liked how you described the black fronted tern with lots of detail. I also liked how you remembered to attribute your photo. If you could adopt a black fronted tern or any of the bird of the year candidates and winners, which bird would you choose?
