Willie Apiata is a former soldier in the New Zealand Special Air Service. He was born on the 28th of June 1972 in Mangakino, New Zealand and has battled, like the war in Afghanistan. Willie Apiata was the first to win the Victoria cross award for New Zealand, as a soldier after world war 2. During the war, Willie carried the soldiers who were badly injured to a safer place and started fighting afterwards. Willie Apiata has had an impact on other people's lives, by sacrificing himself for New Zealand.
This week for day 5, activity 3 of week 2 for SLJ, we wrote about someone who we think has changed the world. I chose Willie Apiata, who was a former soldier in New Zealand. For this activity I included who Willie Apiata was and how he has had an impact on other people's lives.
Hello Sakina! Willie Apiata was a great choice, and has definitely impacted and inspired others with his story. And I also think we should acknowledge every soldier for a risking their lives for better country. Well done!

Hi Sakina...at military academy my son was in Apiata section so I think you made an awesome choice! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!
ReplyDeleteHi Sakina,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you said that Willie Apiata made an impact on other people's lives by sacrificing his own safety for the safety of others. I also liked how you gave a detailed backstory on who he is. Would you want to join the army?
