Day 1 | Activity 1:Setting Sail
This week is the start of the Summer Learning Journey activities. For day 1, activity 1 of SLJ, we created a DLO that shows 10 foods we would take on our voyage and why. For this activity, we imagined that we were invited to join Nainoa for 3 weeks, which meant we packed our own food. Nainoa was a Polynesian who used stars, clouds, the moon and the sun to navigate his way. Hector and I worked together for this activity.

Salam alaikum Sakina,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Mani and I am going to be joining you on the Summer Learning Journey as a blog commenter. I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?
This year I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs, especially because I have been to your school and met you and your classmates! How is the class anyways? I am really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time with my family and hanging out with my friends. I also love to exercise and write songs in my spare time. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?
Wow Sakina, I am absolutely amazed by the slides you have created for this activity. I love how you have even created a title slide and am super impressed with your use of images and adding the attributions for them as well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your well thought out reasons for picking each food item and glad that you shared it!
I look forward to reading more of your amazing blog posts and hope you enjoy your last week of school, keep up the great work Sakina! :)
Thank you,
Mani
Hi Sakina! I'm glad to see that you're taking part in the Summer Learning Journey yet again. You and Hector did such a great job for this first activity, well done on attributing the pictures as well. We have a few mutual items but what surprised me was number 10. Except for the fact that it’s high in protein etc, this is actually a smart idea especially when you are setting sail on a voyage. How would you improvise if the food on deck ran out? Best idea is to take advantage of the sea, although I'm not a fan of eating the “larger” sea food but I love shrimp, muscles, and a few other marine crustaceans. I’ll be looking forward to future posts! Well done.
ReplyDeleteHi Sakina,
ReplyDeleteWell done on completing your first activity for the Summer Learning Journey. It's great that you found loads of dried foods that will last a while so that your food doesn't rot. It is also good that you have food like fruit and vegetables so that you don't get diseases while at sea like scurvy. Would you take water with you or some other kind of drink? Keep up the good work.
