Day 2 | Activity 1:Flying Solo

This week for day 2, activity 1 of week 1 for SLJ, we created a Venn diagram showing the comparisons between Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart. Both Jean and Amelia were solo pilots. Before we created the Venn diagram, we read a short paragraph of each of these pilots to learn who they are. For this activtiy we wrote 3 similarities and 3 differences for both Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart. I have learnt a good amount of information about each of these aviators.

  1. Greetings Sakina
I like the Venn Diagram that you created about Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart. One of the most interesting things I found out about from your Venn Diagram is that Jean Batten was the first person in New Zealand to fly solo.

  2. Hi Sakina, this is Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani and I'll be commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the venn diagram you have created about two awesome aviators - do you want to be a pilot when you leave school, or maybe a flight engineer? Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  3. Kia Ora Sakina,

Well done on creating an interesting and informative Venn Diagram. I know something else they have in common, they were both very brave women! They were both flying planes almost 100 years ago back when the planes were different to what they are today. These days, we have technology that helps pilots flying the planes go longer, faster, higher and safer than ever before. Do you think you would ever want to be a pilot? I think it would be such a cool job because you would get to travel around the world and visit so many places!

    Keep the blogging up!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani

  4. Hello Sakina! You made a strong start and end to your journey, and this proves that. I hope you look back on all the work you've done, and the effort you've put in to get to where you are at now! This is a really well done Venn Diagram, including pictures and information. I personally didn't know a lot about the two of them until I did this activity for myself. Can you relate? Congratulations on completing the journey!

  5. Hi Sakina,
I like your venn diagram on Amelia Earhart and Jean Batten. I think that you have done a great job. Do you know which one completing their flying journey first? Also, if you could, would you fly around the world/from one country to another? Keep up the good work.
