Day 4 | Activity 2: What’s In A Name?

This week for say 4, activity 2 for week 1 of SLJ, we imagined that we were allowed to change our name to anything. For this activity we created a DLO, showing what we would change our name to and why. I also decided to include the meaning of the name I would change. The name that I would change to, is Zara. Zara is a normal and unique name.

Thanks for sharing with us what you'd like your name to be, if you could change it. I think that it's interesting that you've picked 'Zara' - I know 3 people with the name Zara, so you're right, it is fairly unique!
Can I tell you something though? To be honest, I think that your name is really beautiful! It's a shame that you're often faced with people who struggle to pronounce your name - sometimes they just need reminding.

Can you tell me what Sakina means? Where does it originate from?

    Looking forward to your response!

  2. Salam Sakina,

I think Zara is a really awesome name and I love the meaning of the name. I personally think that Sakina is a beautiful name. When I visited your class last week, Mrs Fisi’iahi from Room 6 and I were actually talking about how we really like your name. Before I met you, I had never met anyone with the name ‘Sakina’, so to me it seemed like a pretty unique name.

My real name is Pelimani and when I was around your age, I wanted to change my name to Jamie. Why? Because I wanted a normal name like everyone else and not many people could pronounce my name correctly either. As I grew older, I learnt to be proud of my name because I love that I was named after my father and I always found it pretty cool that there are only 3 people in the world with my name.

I always look forward to reading your amazing blog posts Sakina, hope you are enjoying your last few days at school :)

    Thank you,

    Mani

  3. Hi Sakina! Wow Zara sounds like a really beautiful name- especially the meaning behind it. Even though my name is ordinary and common, I wouldn't change it because it still has a lot of meaning to me. And like your name, Sakina, you wouldn't be you if you had it any different. It's such a pretty and unique name! Well done Sakina.

  4. Hi Sakina,
I like the name that you would change yours to. Zara is indeed a unique name and it is great that you picked one that has a meaning to you (from your language). Are there any other names you might change to? Keep up the good work.
