Swimming-YMCA Pools
LI: To learn how to swim. This week for kiwi sport we had swimming at the YMCA pools. First we all sat down near the pools. Cameron and James taught us about how to ask for help when you are drowning in the ocean or river and how to save other people in the ocean or river. If you are drowning you can ask for help by yelling for help as loud as you can and you can jump and put one hand in the air. If you are wanting to help someone from drowning you can get a board and swim to the person. Then you can give them the board, so they can float. You have to stay a few metres away because they can jump on you which makes you drown to. Make sure you are between the red flags or signs. If you are not the lifeguards won't be able to help you. Once we finished learning about that we went to our stations. I was with Kelly. First we jumped into the pool safely. Then we did sculling. For sculling we had to float on our backs and bring our arms out and back together. We had to scull to the platform. Once we did that we jumped out of the pool and went to the other pool. We got pool noodles. We had to ran in big circles. Then we had to float on our backs and go in circles. When we finished doing that we had to float front and switch to back. When we did that we jumped back into the other pool and we sculled to the platform. After that we jumped out of the pool and got changed. Once we got changed we went on the bus and went back to class.
