Summer Learning Journey|Like a Scene Out of a Movie| The Seven Sisters

This week for activity 2, day 4 of week 3 of Summer Learning Journey, we had to write a short summary about The Seven Stars Of Matariki. We had to try and make it 6 to 8 sentences long. Before that we had to watch a video of Toni reading the story. Then we moved onto writing the summary.

Summary- This story is about the seven stars of matariki. It was a time, where brothers were sailing. They came past seven ladies who looked very beautiful. The brothers immediately fell in love, but one didn't. The brothers became the ladies husband, so they took them to the their village. The brothers cooked for their wives, and got skinnier. The one brother wanted the wives to be gone. He got some help from his brothers. The one brother captured the wives with nets. The brother then took the wives to heaven. The sisters would only shine on Matariki.

  1. Kia ora Sakina,

Well done on going into so much detail with your short summary of Matariki: The Seven Sisters, i have learnt so much from this so thank you I really appreciate this. It was a very interesting part when the brothers cooked for their wives and got skinner, I think they were so blinded by their beauty that they gave everything up for them, including food. My favourite part was when Mitai turned into a bird to listen to the wives plans to kill the brothers by letting them fade away.

Well done on picking up on so many details from the story. You must have really good comprehension in writing and reading.

  2. Hi Sakina,
Great job on completing this activity! I liked how you said that the youngest brother took the patupaiarehe to heaven, although he did only take them to the star god. I also liked how you described lots of small details in your story. If you saw a patupaiarehe, what do you think you'd do?
