Photo by Nzwj (CC BY-SA 3.0)
New Zealand is a country that has really nice nature. There are a lot of structures builders worked hard on. There are around 4.794 million people in New Zealand. Life in New Zealand is just amazing and nice and simple. Its mostly sunny and cloudy. On sunny and cloudy days my family and I would mostly go to the beach. The beaches are really nice. Most beaches has calm waves. We would go shopping, go to restaurants and more. You can learn about lots of things in New Zealand. Many different cultures, religions and more are accepted in New Zealand for who they are. I would never leave New Zealand, because it is a lovely place.

LI: To post people a description of life in New Zealand in 2018. This week for day 5, activity 3 of week 1 of Summer Learning Journey, we had to post a description about life in New Zealand in 2018. Summer Learning Journey|Living On The Edge|Letter To Cousin

Dear Farzana,
Are you having fun, because I am. It's really cold, dry and treeless around here. I've been seeing some animals I didn't know existed. They look amazing. There are a lot of animals that have been migrating and hibernating. The animals here have small tails and ears, which helps them to loose the heat in the coldness. Some of the animals change their coats/colours into white, so that they can blend into winter. Did you know that Tundra comes from a Finnish word tunturi. This actually means barren land. The plants here grow together, so they can be safe/protected from the winds which are icy. Thank you for reading this letter.

Your Sincerely
Sakina.

Once we got into partner we went to a cone. Then we started off with a game called snatch the cone. For snatch the cone we had to fold our arms and snatch the cone. We played this a few time with different poses.

After we played snatch the cone, we started off with the defenses. The first defense was guard. For guard we had to get into the rock position and our hand had to go on our heads. Someone had to hit a pool noodle at us. but we had to defend ourselves by doing the defense, guard.

The second defense was the bridge. For the bridge we got into our rock position. Then we had to go back by putting our right foot and left foot back. Someone hit the pool noodle at us, so we could use the bridge defense.

The last defense was the u roll. For the u roll someone had to put the pool noodle horizontally on our shoulder. Then we had to squat and come back up on the other side of the pool noodle.

Once we did that we went back to class.

SSR Selfie

This week for SSR Selife I decided to read Charlotte's Web. This story is about a girl named Fern. Her father tries to kill a newborn pig because it was weak and small, but Fern stops her father. She was crying because she didn't want her father to kill the pig. A while later Fern's father put the little pig into a carton and he gave it to Fern. Fern was really happy. Fern took really good care of the little pig. her decided to call the pig Wilbur. Charlotte is a spider, whose spiderweb tells her of her feeling of Wilbur and Fern. Fern also loves Wilbur.

What Can You Tell?

LI: To infer information from a picture. This week for reading we inferred images. First we got into partners. My partner was Farzana. We each had our own slide. With our partners we talked about our inference's of the images. We did four inferences with the evidence. We also pointed arrows to the inferences. At the same time this was fun, but sort of hard.

Trench Warfare|Interactive Notebook

LI: To learn information about trenches. This week for inquiry we learnt about trench warfare. First we went on the interactive notebook. Then we went onto the trench warfare slide. For the trench warfare my group and I decided to include information about sandbags, barbed wire fences, no man's land, frostbite and insects. We went on links to find the information we needed about trenches. I learnt a lot about the parts of a trench and more.

Maori|Food Poster

This week for Maori we had Whaea Odie. First we watch a video about Maui. The video was about how Maui and his brothers went fishing on a boat. Maui had his Grandma's magic hook. When Maui put the hook into the water a big fish became South Island. Then Maui and his brothers went to the sea again. It was very cold and there was a storm. Maui and his brothers froze. The boat became North Island. Once we watched the video we got into partners. My partner was Alice. We were numbered. Alice and I were 10. There was a sheet with food. We had to do bread, lettuce, sandwich and egg. Some of the words had the Maori translation. Some didn't. We had to make a poster that had the name of the Maori foods and pictures of the foods. There couldn't be any English words.

Kiwi Can

This week for kiwi can we had Mr. Matt and Ms. Paige. Our theme was respect and our topic was respect for our community.

First we got into our four lines and talked about what community is. Community is a group of people who live in the same area.

After that, we did the energizer. For the energizer we got into a circle. Our legs had to be spread out. We could only use one hand to hit the ball through other people's legs. We had to protect our legs, so the ball didn't go through our legs. If the ball went through someone's leg, they would be out. We only played one round.

Once we played that game, we got into our four lines and talked about community. We talked about how to keep our community safe, communities and how to respect our community. Some communities are the hospital, the police station, the community hall and more. To respect our community we have to listen to them and more. To keep our community safe we have to help them and more.

After we talked about community, we did the activity. For the activity we played handball. For handball we were split into two groups. We had to name our group. One group had to go on one side and the other had to go on the other side. My group's name was the cookie potatoes. We were numbered 1 to 13. I was number 5. There were cones on each side. If Mr. Matt called out a number or numbers, the people who got numbered that number had to go up and hit the ball in between the cones. The first group who got 10 points would win. For this game my group won.

We did GKQ/General Knowledge Questions after we played handball. The master was Mojtaba and the winner was Sandra.

After we did GKQ we went back to class.

Division Slide Show

LI: To complete four tasks over four weeks. This week for maths we had to complete four tasks over four weeks. First we went on a google sheet and chose what to create for each week. I chose addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. On the google sheet we had to do a poster, a slide, a animation and a video for each of the operations. For the poster I put in subtraction, for the slide I put in division, for the animation I put in addition and for the video I put in multiplication. For this week I decided to do the slide show first. Our teacher wrote down what equation we had to do. I had to do 1/4 of 24 and 1/3 of 24. For the slide I decided to include an explanation of how to solve the problems.

Mounted Art Work

LI: To mount our final results of our quatrefoils. This week we finished off our quatrefoils. Once we finished our quatrefoils we cut around it. After that, we wrote down why we chose the designs and colors on our quatrefoils. We showed our writing to the teachers, so they could proofread it. Once we showed the teacher our writing, we got a piece of white paper. On the paper we had to display our layout of the quatrefoils. We couldn't glue it yet. After that we ruled the open space to put our writing on. Once we ruled it we went on a google draw and added our writing in. On page setup we put in our measurements of the space of the white piece of paper. Once we did the page setup we asked the teachers to print it out. After that we cut around our writing. When we finished, we started gluing our quatrefoils and writing onto the piece of white paper. We also glued our names on the bottom right corner. I am very proud of my quatrefoils. I think that it turned out good.

Commenting

This week for commenting I decided to comment on Charlize's blog. The connection we made was that we both went boxing. I think Charlize did awesome work. I thought that in Charlize's blurb he explained what she did for boxing which was very good. I liked the way Charlize explained how he felt and how she had fun. I also liked he way she wrote down the three commandments and what she had to say. Here is the link- Charlize's blog

Basic Facts Boxes

This week for basic fact boxes I decided to do my times tables. For basic facts boxes you can choose either addition and subtraction or times tables. Once you choose one you answer equations. If you do your times tables you have to press go. You have to answer the times tables equations. You have to answer both multiplication and division. When you answer the equations, at the bottom it will say good or try again.

SSR Selfie

This week for SSR Selfie I decided to read ANH do weirdo. This story is about a boy named Weirdo who has a life that is strange. His life is busy and he always does something. His family is just like him. They are weird and living with a weird family which makes his life more busier. Weirdo gets into some incidents and is very silly. Weirdo's fear is ladybugs. In this story Weirdo tries out for the soccer team and he hopes he gets in. Weirdo's dad is working on his dance moves for the local talent quest.

Boxing

This week for boxing we learnt new combinations with Pat. We first told Pat the three commandments which is respect, discipline and safety.

Then we got into partners. My partner was Angelica. Once we got into partners we played rock, paper, scissors, shoot. The partner who lost had to sit down. The partner who won was partner one. I was partner one. Partner one had to put on the gloves and had to get the boxing gloves. The other partner had to help partner one put the boxing gloves in our hands. We only had thirty seconds. If we didn't put the boxing gloves on we had to do a burpee.

Once we did that we moved onto doing the boxing combinations. The first combination was jab, jab, cross. The other partners had to hold a noodle, so partner one could hit it.

The second combination was jab, cross, left uppercut, cross. Partner two had to hold the noodle again. When partner one did the left uppercut, partner two had to face the noodle horizontal.

The last combination was jab, cross, left hook, right hook, left uppercut, right uppercut. Partner two had to do the same thing with the noodle. Once we did the three combinations we swapped. Partner two had to wear the boxing glove and do combinations. Partner one had to hold the noodle.

Once we did the three combination we went back to class.

Maori|Paikea

This week for Maori we made a poster teaching people about Paikea. First Whaea Odie read us a book called Clay Woman. This story is about a forest god who had built a sculpture of a woman. The forest god put his head on the sculpture that he created and sighed. Suddenly the woman that the forest god created, came to life. Once we listened to the story we moved onto creating the poster about Paikea. For the poster I included Whangara, Ngati Porou, the tahuhu ( the carving that is on top of the meeting house), links, the summary of Paikea and who Paikea is.
