NZ Defence Force Visitor

Yesterday on Tuesday after lunch we had a NZ defence force visitor called Isaac. Isaac teached us about the defensive structures and bombs they used in wars.

First Isaac teached us the layers they used in war. The layers were shape, materials and camouflage. These layers were very important in war. Shape was used to make something curvy because if the enemies try to shoot with something it can go somewhere else. If something is straight the enemies will shoot it maybe with one shot. For the materials the people in war had to use good materials, something that was strong. If it was metal it would melt, so the people in war had to be careful of what materials they used. Lastly camouflage was used to disguise yourself or something.

After we learnt about the layers we learnt about the bombs and explosives. Some bombs were the dumb bombs and the smart bombs. The reason the dumb bombs were called the dumb bombs were because when you let it go and destroy something it only goes where you wanted it to go, it doesn't go anywhere else. For some smart bombs you could control where it goes. One of the explosives we learnt about was the dynamite.

Once we learnt about the defensive structures we had a construction challenge. For the challenge we first got into a group of 5. In my group I had Fau, Charlize, Liletina and Sulia. After that we got eight straws and one piece of paper. We had to build a structure that could keep a small helicopter from blowing away. We only had 10 minutes of making the structure. After we made our structure we had to put it on the benches. Mr. Wong put small toy helicopter in our structures. Mr. Wong, Mr. Ogilvie and Isaac got board and swang it up and down for the structure to fall. Some of our structures failed, like my groups one. I had a lot of fun learning about defensive structures and also creating the structures with my group.
