Summer Learning Journey- Day 2 Activity 1

For day 2, activity 1 of Summer Learning Journey we had to compare the wharepuni to our own house. We had to write down 2 similarities and 2 differences to our own house and the wharepuni. We had to look at a picture of the wharepuni, so that we could see the differences and the similarities. The wharepuni doesn't really look like my house.

Similarities- The wharepuni and my house has walls and a door.

Differences- The wharepuni has statues and my house doesn't. The wharepuni has Maori patters and my house doesn't have any Maori patterns.

Summer Learning Journey- Day 1 Bonus Activity

For day 1, bonus activity of Summer Learning Journey we had to watch a short video of a Waka Ama race. Then we had to write down if we would like to be in a Waka Ama race for 1 day or not. We had to include why we want to be in the Waka Ama race or why not. The bonus activity is worth 10 points.

I would like to be in the Waka Ama race because you can work together to beat the other teams, you can paddle more quicker, so that we can go more faster. You can also use your strength to win a competition, you can make plans and get ideas from each other to try and win.

Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Activity 2

For day 1, activity 2 of Summer Learning Journey we had to imagine that we were on one of the wakas. Then we had to write a letter to a friend. We had to tell our friend about our voyage to New Zealand. We also had to tell our friend how we felt about moving to a country.

Dear...
My journey to New Zealand was awesome. When I first came to New Zealand I could see lots of building, cars and more. We passed a shiny city that could nearly touch the sky. We saw dolphins, fishes and other sea creatures. There was people standing on mountains. I had a fun time at New Zealand. Next time I come here I will take you.

The books that I have heard is How Maui defied the Goddess of Death, Maui and the sun and  Battle of the Mountains. I had to read some of the paragraphs of Maui and the giant fish, so that I could find facts.
1- Maui caught a giant fish without using any bait that his brothers didn't give, because they were laughing.

2- Maui made a plan, so that he could prove to his brothers that he was a good fisherman.

3- Maui hit himself on the nose and covered the hook with his blood.

Jack was 1st place, Marieta was 2nd place and Karlos was 3rd place. I didn't get any chocolate bars because I didn't have more money then anyone else. After they got chocolate bars we got see who got the disaster and the lotto. For the disaster it landed on no one and for the lotto no one got the lotto money.

News Report

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text. This week for reading we had to get into a new group. I was with Victoria, Mele, Nyjah and Sila. We each had to choose 1 of the categories- Entertainment, Business, National, International or Sports. We had to find information by researching things about your categories. Tables Conga

For a other I decided to do Tables Conga. Tables Conga is when you use your arrows on your keyboard to collect the times tables that you are doing. You have to make sure you don't bump into a virus. If you bump into one  you are out and you have to start again. The times tables that you can do is the 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and the 9 times tables. I decided to do the 6 times tables.

Free Rice

This week for a can do I decided to do Free Rice. To play free rice you have to donate grains of rice to hungry people by answering questions. If you want to see if the answers are correct you can look at the top and it will say if it is correct or incorrect. If you get 1 question right you get 10 grains of rice and if you get 5 questions correct you get 50 grains of rice. For free rice I donated 200 grains of rice. I like playing free rice because you can donate grains of rice and you can answer questions. The link- Free Rice

Commenting

For commenting this week I commented on Lukah's blog. The post that I commented on was Zombie Apocalypse. I think that Lukah did a fantastic job at making his vlog. I really liked the way he explained what he did and how he learnt it on his blurb. I had a lot of fun commenting on Lukah's blog.

Kiwi Sport

This week we had kiwi sport in the hall with Kevin. First we did a warm up game. This was our last session of badminton. We had to choose if we wanted to play Octopus, Infinity tag or Stuck in the mud. We chose to play Octopus. For Octopus the 2 taggers had to be in the middle of the hall. The rest of us had to be lining. The taggers had to say Octopus or people who are wearing shoes and other things. If we got tagged we had to be in a t and try and tag people without moving. If 2 people didn't get tagged, then they had to be the taggers for the next round. We got to play 2 rounds. For the first round I got tagged, so I had to tag people. For the last round I got tagged again because I am not that good at Octopus. Once we finished playing Octopus Kevin showed us a trick. Then we had to try and do that trick. We had to put the shuttle on the racket. Then we had to rotate it. It was kind of hard doing the trick. After we did the trick we played singles, ins and outs. For singles, ins and outs 1 person had to verse another person. If someone got 1 point the other person had to go at the back of the line. 9 or 8 people had to be at each net. I only bated a little bit of people. For the last game we played doubles, ins and outs. For doubles, ins and outs a pair had to verse another pair. If a pair got 2 points the other pair had to go at the back of the line. I was partners with Victoria. We only bated some people. When we finished playing doubles, ins and outs we had to line up and say goodbye to Kevin. Then we went back to class.

Keyboarding Drills

LI: To touch type. This week for a daily 6 I decided to do keyboarding drills. I had to make a copy of the keyboarding drills, so I could do it.  Keyboarding drills helps me type more faster and it also helps me not to look at the keyboarding while I am typing. I have been getting better and better at not looking at the keyboarding when I am typing. Sometimes I look at the keyboards and sometimes I don't look at the keyboards.

Christmas Poem Remake

LI: To remake a famous poem. This week for writing we had to remake a poem of Twas the Night Before Christmas. First we had to listen to the poem. We also had to listen to the kiwi version of Twas the Night Before Christmas. Then we had to write down our own version of the poem. The beginning of the poem had to be Twas the Night Before Christmas, when all through the house and the ending had to be Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.

Zombie Apocalypse

LI: To make generalisations about the impact of a group in our community. This week for inquiry we had to pick a scenario- all government services are lost, all health services are lost or all food productions and deliveries are lost. The scenario that I chose was all food productions and deliveries are lost. Once we picked a scenario we had to make a script about it. When we finished writing our script we had to vlog about it. When I was doing the vlog I had to do it again and again.

Newspaper Article

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week for the reading must do people were split up into four different groups and had to create a newspaper article on a topic out of business, entertainment, sports, international news and nation news. I worked on entertainment with Alex, Jayden did business, Chris and Joseph did sports, Aden did international and Peter did national news. We had to search for websites that had relevant information to our choice of topic, would be interesting to read and the date for the article that we rewrote was between a certain time.

Keyboarding Drills

LI:To learn touch type. This week for a daily 6 I decided to do keyboarding drills level 1. I wanted to do keyboarding drills, so that I can get better at not looking at the keyboards while I am typing. Whenever I do keyboarding drills it kind of helps me to type faster and to not look at the keyboards while I am typing things. Keyboarding drills helps me finish my work more faster because I am typing fast. I learnt to not look at the keyboards while I am typing.

That's My Money

LI:To manage profits and finances. For maths this week we had to do learning activities to make money. We had to make a copy of a bank account on google sheets. We had 50 dollars to start it off. Whenever we did a activity like prototec or daily fact sheets we got money. Whenever we do maths we have to put in where we are working and our insurance level on our bank account. My insurance level is high so I have to pay 5 dollars back. The work space that I sit is the tables because it is the cheapest. 1 of the activities that I mostly do is prototec.

Narrative Illustrations

This week for writing we had to get into a group of 3. I was with Victoria and Mele. We had to write a narrative on 3 pieces of paper. We had to write down the beginning of the story.  Then we had to give our piece of paper to the next person. The person that you gave your paper to couldn't look at what you wrote. When we finished writing we had to read it. After we read it we had to write down the ending. We could work together if we wanted to and we did. It was really hard writing the narrative with only 10 minutes each. I was struggling on what to write down.  When we finished writing the narrative we had to see which narrative made more sense. After we had to illustrate the narrative using a google slide. It took us time to get the illustrations finished.

Kiwi Can

This week we had kiwi can with Ms. Latoya and Ms. Lily. For all the sessions we played games. First Ms. Lily had to put us into 2 groups. After we got into groups we had to go outside to play a game. For the game 1 of the groups had to be the taggers and the other had to try and run away. The taggers had a ball to tag a person that is not in their group. The taggers couldn't move around with the ball and they couldn't throw the ball to tag someone. If we went in a hula hoop we were safe and we could only stay in the hula hoop for 5 seconds. For the next game we had to get into our group and make a circle. 1 person from the other group had to come in the middle of the circle. There was a cone in the middle too. The person that was in the middle had to try and stop the ball from hitting the cone. The group that was around the circle had to try and roll the ball to the cone, so that the cone falls down. If the cone falls down the person in the middle had to go back to their circle. Then another person had to be in the group. For the last game we had to go back inside and practice making a tower with trays and a bucket. Then we had to go back outside and make the tower again. After 2 people from each team had to be in the middle. Ms. Latoya or Ms. Lily had to throw the ball up high and the 2 people had to try and catch the ball. 1 team had to wear bibs.  The person that catches the ball had to pass it to someone in their team. The person with the ball couldn't move. Their was a person by the tower so that they could keep it from falling. We had to try and throw the ball to the other groups tower, so that it could fall down. If the tower fall the group that crushed it with the ball won. Once we finished playing the game we went back to class.

Kiwi Sport

LI:To learn new skills for Badminton. This week we had kiwi sport in the hall with Kevin. First we played a warm up game. The warm up that we played was stuck in the mud. For stuck in the mud their had to be 2 taggers. The taggers was Akuhata and Te Rangimarie. The people who wasn't taggers had to run around. If we got tagged from Akuhata or Te Rangimarie we had to be in the letter t. If we wanted to be free again someone who didn't get tagged had to clap between or legs and touch our arm. I got tagged a lot of times and I also freed some people. After we played stuck in the mud we had to get into partners. I was with Victoria. We had to get a racket each and 1 shuttle between the both of us. We had to go to a badminton net and do the forehand lift. 1 of us had to do the forehand lift and the other person had to catch the shuttle and throw it back. Victoria did the forehand grip and I had to catch the shuttle and threw it back. Once we did 5 we had to swap. Once we did the forehand lift we played singles, ins and outs. For singles, ins and outs their had to be 8 people in each badminton net. 1 person had to verse another person. When someone had 1 point the other person had to be at the back of the line. I won just a little bit. Once we played singles, ins and outs we play doubles, ins and outs. Doubles, ins and out is kind of like singles, ins and outs. For doubles, ins and outs we had to get in a partner. 4 pairs had to be in 1 badminton net. My partner was still Victoria. We had to verse another pair. If a pair got 2 points, the other pair had to go to the back of the line. We just won a little bit. When we finished we went back to class.

Community Roles

LI:To classify personal relationships. This week for inquiry we had to pick 3 roles from government agencies, trades, professions or emergency services. The roles that I picked was polices, libraries and doctors. I did these roles because I really wanted to know more things about them. I found some interesting facts about polices, libraries and doctors. The DLO that I used a google slide, because it would be more easier to write onto. The things that we had to write was what their main role is, is there different type of roles they do, are there different types of this role, what training you need to become one of them, how the roles interact with your family and you and how they interact with each other. I had a lot of fun researching things about doctors, polices and libraries.

This week for commenting I decided to comment on Mele's blog. The blog post that I commented on was That's My Money. I think that Mele did a fantastic job at doing her blog post. The things that I like about her blog post was that she added a prototec certificate and how she added the Income. I had a lot of fun commenting on Mele's blog. The link- Mele's Blog

Tables Conga

For a other must do I decided to do tables Conga. Tables Conga is when you use the arrow on your keyboard to collect the multiplications of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 times tables. If you touch the viruses with x's you have to start again. The times tables that I did was my 7 times tables. I wanted to do my 7 times tables because I wanted to get better at it. To change the times tables you have to scroll down and there will be 2 times tables, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 9 times tables. Tables Conga helps me get better at my times tables.

Addle

This week for a maths can do I decided to do addle. Addle is when you drag the numbers to the blank spaces to make the number that is on. If you want to know if it is wrong it will show up at the bottom after you finished the blank spaces. It took me 1 minute and 15 seconds to finish it because it was kind of hard. Addle helps me use different numbers to make a number like 10 or 30. The link-Addle

Keyboarding Drills

LI:To learn touch type. This week  for a daily 6 I did keyboarding drills level 3 because I want to get better at typing faster. Whenever I do keyboarding drills it kind of helps me not to look at the keyboards and it also helps me type faster so I can finish off my work more quicker. I might do keyboarding drills once a week so I don't look at the keyboarding while typing. I learnt to get better at not look at the keyboards while I am typing things down.

Canoe Puppies

For a other must do I decided to do Canoe Puppies because I wanted to practise my addition.  For Canoe Puppies there is addition questions that you have to answer. You have to race other people. If you want to win you have to try and find the correct answer to the addition question. The addition questions is 2 digit numbers. I had a lot of fun playing Canoe Puppies because you can practise your 2 digit addition and you can race other people. The link- Canoe Puppies

Free Rice helps me donate grains of rice and it helps me practise learning. Free Rice is when you answer questions about english . If you get 1 question correct you donate 10 grains of rice and if you get 5 questions correct you donate 50 grains of rice. I donated 150 grains of rice, so that people who are really hungry can eat. If you don't know if you got a question correct or incorrect it will show up at the top. I had a lot of fun practising my learning and I also had a lot of fun donating rice to people who are hungry. The link- Free Rice

Commenting

This week for commenting I commented on Mele's blog. The post that I commented on was Kiwi Sport. The thing that I liked about her blog post was that she explained things about what she did at Kiwi Sport. The thing that we had in common was that we both went to Kiwi Sport. I think that Mele did a fantastic job at writing about her Kiwisport blog post. I learnt to commented on people's blogs. The link- Mele's blog

Kiwi Can

This week we had kiwi can with Ms. Latoya and Mr. Malu. Our topic or theme was still on Respect and Empathy. First we had to tell Ms. Latoya what empathy means. Empathy means when you put yourself into another person's place. Ms. Latoya had to put us into 4 groups. In my group I had Victoria, Karlos, Akuhata, Hosea and Andrew. The first game that we played was greeting. For greetings Ms. Latoya had to tell us a greeting. Then she showed us the action of the greeting. We had to get into partners and when Ms. Latoya said a greeting to us we had to do the action together. Ms. Latoya told us to swap partners and we did. A partner that did it to slowly had to sit down. Once we finished playing greetings we had to get back into our groups and we had to play props. Props is when you change a object into something else. The first object that we had to change was a bean bag. Every group had a turn of turning the object into something else. My group turned the bean bag into a phone. We didn't turn 1 object into something else, we changed other objects too. When we finished playing Props we went outside to play buddy up buddy down. For buddy down and buddy up we had to be in 2 circles. 1 big circle and 1 small circle. The small circle had to be in the middle of the big circle. We also had to be in partners. I was with Victoria. If 2 of us didn't get tagged and we were the only ones left we had to be the taggers. Karlos and I had to be the taggers this time because we didn't get tagged. We tried to tag everyone, but we didn't. When we finished this round we played 1 more round. For the last round Victoria and Yesha was the taggers. I was trying to not get tagged, but I got tagged from Victoria. Once we played Octopus we did the forehand serve. We had to get into partners and we had to get a racket each and 1 shuttle between the both of us. When we got up to 5 we had to swap. When we finished doing the forehand serve we did the forehand lift. For the forehand lift we had our racket foot had to be in front of the shuttle foot and we had to be in the forehand grip. We had to get into partners again and 1 of us had to throw the shuttle to the other person that was doing the forehand lift. When we got up to 5 we swapped. Weather-Flood Waters Recede

This week for reading we had to make pick a choice- National, International, Sports, Business, Entertainment or Weather. Then we had to tell our group what we wanted to do. I decided to do weather because I kind of know some things about weather. After we had to make a DLO that has news about something that happens. The news had to be about the choice that you picked. The news that I did was about  Flood Waters Recede. I chose to add photos of a newspaper, the flood that happened at the Central Otago town of Roxburgh and a breaking news image. I found the Flood Waters Recede on NZ Herald. NZ Herald helped me find things about the Weather. I had a lot of fun finding news about the Weather and writing it in my own words.
